This was yesterday...routed out for glass, then chiseled out the corners.....used my new @ryobitoolsusa latch mortising jig which is awesome. I prefer whenever possible to install hardware before sanding and painting simply because if something goes terribly wrong, there are many more options to fix it than after its prepped and painted. Took today and sanded and stained this door. My stereo blew the other night while I was cleaning up, I may have had it up too loud, who knows. So I started looking for old stereo component systems on marketplace and craigslist and folks want way too much for their obsolete, bulky, stereo systems. Enter these tiny stereo amplifiers. Sure amps have been around forever, but never so cheap and with the proper inputs and outputs for regular 120v operation. This thing was 30 bucks and is clear and loud running 50 watts per channel; several speakers one of which is a massive 15" cerwin Vega speaker that may outlive me! Squared up door from yesterday. This method has proven to be the very best , repeatable way to get perfectly squared doors every time. That first pass with the fixed base and dust collection works well for the dust collection, but the hose was pulling it away so I got terrible chatter marks. Sometimes you just gotta make a mess ! It's a woodshop after all. I'll come up with a way to do that without making it snow but its not a priority right now. The tried and true corner to corner measurements shows the end results from this method. Again the mega flush trim bit from @infinitytools for the win on this one. With a 3/4" diameter and a 2" cutting length, it's perfect for this task. So again, all I'm doing is using the table top (3/4 MDF factory edge) as a template for one side, and one end of the door. That creates the first straight edge and 90°......then I take to table saw and cut other side parallel and to its final width.......then back to the clamping table and carefully measure for final length and mark each edge and flush trim it to its final length. About 250 bd ft of clear and knotty alder, more than enough for three sets of french doors. Along with some red oak for a custom door frame, and a few pieces of 8/4 poplar and some 1x4s I use for crates. Had to reinforce my supports but with the knee braces they should be plenty strong to carry the little bit of alder and red oak I have on that second shelf. This is a project I have in mind for springtime, replacing these supports with probably some poplar. But right now, they're all nice and even and doing what they need to do. I love getting enough orders where I can button up the shop up all warm and toasty like for the winter and rarely open the shop doors. Two door halves, done !! Had to take a few days and get rid of whatever blahhhhh I had.....yes I got tested....scary time to feel Ill, but I'm all better now!! These ate some in SW salty dog blue, the second door I've done in this color. The hardware is a true mortise lock with keyhole and skeleton key from my friends at @houseofantiquehardware in dark bronze, as well as the bolt latch. 1/4" tempered glass. I'm gluing up the next door for the same gold star level client right now. And another #tbt #throwbackthursday to this custom gate for a client in texas. It's done in @myoldmasters mahogany gel stain and finished with teak oil and urethane mix. The addition of the pet door was to allow her senior cat to be able to get in the other side of the gate.
