As I mentioned in my post about the Panzer I Ausf B, I also built the Ausf A, and Spanish 20mm Breda variants of the Panzer I! The Ausf A is easily identifiable from the Ausf B, as it has one less road wheel, and a large trailing idler wheel, as well as a different engine deck due to its less powerful engine. Armour and armament was identical to the later Ausf B variant however. I also took the opportunity to build the Spanish modified Panzer I Breda. During the Spanish Civil War, Nationalist Panzer Is were extremely outclassed by the BT-5 and T-26 tanks fielded by the Republicans, as these had very powerful 45mm guns, capable of knocking out the Panzer I from great ranges, at which the Panzer I couldn’t hope to defend itself. The Breda variant was an attempt to improve the anti-tank capabilities of the Panzer I by fitting an extension to the turret and mounting a 20mm Breda cannon. Several tanks were converted like this, and did see combat, but were ultimately not mass produced, as the performance was deemed to be too lacklustre to make the effort worth it, especially as the Nationalist forces were starting to field T-26 and BT-5 tanks captured from the Republicans. These designs may appear on Omaha Bricks in the future, likely as a pack with each other.
Here is the full comic. I made dis
A German design this time, the first of Germany’s famous Panzer series, the Pz.Kpfw. I! Specifially the Ausf B variant. I have built the ausf A also, but unlike this variant, the Ausf A is not available on Omaha Bricks, at least currently. In the future it may be released alongside the Spanish modified Ausf A with 20mm Breda cannon. Anyway, the Panzer I had good ergonomics, especially for a vehicle of its time, but was very poorly armed, only carrying a pair of medium machine guns, that were incapable of engaging even the most lightly armoured tanks. It did provide Germany with its first taste of modern tank design however. Instructions for this model are currently available on Omaha Bricks https://www.omahabricks.com/
