Love your blog <3
What are your thoughts on the phrase "love the sinner, hate the sin" in reference to LGBT people. How do approach balancing between affirming something that God does not approve of and also loving all people unconditionally.
Christ is Risen! Thank you, I am glad you love it.
As to your question, personally I don't. I kinda hate that phrase in reference to LGBTQA+ people. I don't think you can seperate those two things, I do not believe you can hate the fact a person loves someone who happens to be the same gender or the fact they are another gender from who they are as a person. You cannot hate their "sin" without hating them.
“Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” (Romans 13:10)
I personally do not believe that God does not approve of being gay or transgender or anything in this vain. The few bible passages used to justify this belief could easily be being misread (the Bible is a very complex document) and even if they are saying exactly what was intended, I do not care. I believe the commandment to love my neighbour is a much higher duty than any loyalty to those specific verses (or saints reading of those verses).
Saint John Chrysostom said, "It is better to error by excess of mercy than by excess of severity."
There are only two doctrinal issues of the Eastern Orthodox Church I have major disagreements with and this is one.
Saint Maria of Paris said, "We must not allow Christ to be overshadowed by any regulations, any customs, any traditions, any aesthetic considerations or even any piety."
Leave that phrase for people who've committed true sins.
Saint Maria of Paris said, "No amount of thought will ever result in any greater formulation than the three words, “Love one another”, so along as it is love to the end and without exceptions."
I was late with this one but whatever
