Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel. Arguably (in my opinion, not actually arguably) the greatest armour commanders of all time, one of the greatest generals of all time period, and one of the most badass people to ever walk the Earth. Furthermore, he was not a Nazi. Overwhelmed by the pure concentration of badassery in his blood, he actually refused to carry out any of Hitler's orders concerning the Jews. Furthermore, he was involved in Operation Valkyrie, to kill Hitler. Seriously. This guy fucking hated Hitler. And why wouldn't he? He was only in the army for Germany itself, not the Nazi party. And Hitler's the only reason this guy was ever defeated in the first place; refusing to send him new supplies, not sending promised reinforcements, not letting him retreat TWENTY FOUR FUCKING MILES TO THE MOST DEFENDABLE POSITIONS IN ALL OF NORTH AFRICA WHEN HE WAS IN ONE OF THE LEAST DEFENDABLE. His Panzer Korps in France crossed two hundred miles in a single day on one occasion, and was nicknamed the "Phantom Division" or "Ghost Division" on account of its ability to appear seemingly out of nowhere at any time. By the time he completed his crossing of France, less than 300 of his men had died, and only forty two of his tanks were destroyed.
Furthermore--HE WAS ONE OF THE MOST BADASS MOTHERFUCKING PILOTS OUT THERE. Although this has not been officially confirmed, this story has been deemed almost certainly true. On one occasion, he was flying a recon aircraft himself, and wrote a note while flying it, turned the craft upside down, opened the cockpit a bit, and dropped the note to the enemy below. The note told them to surrender as they were surrounded. They did just that.
He died in 1944 when the Nazi party made him kill himself, or perhaps shot him themselves.
