-Biologically she’s Rafael’s daughter, but that doesn’t make a difference in the world to any of you. Frederick spoils her rotten, and loves her with every fiber of his being. (You don’t find out who she’s is for years anyway, none of you really care.)
-She was born after Fredericks run in with The Red Dragon. Although he wasn’t deep fried, he had a very VERY close call. You found out you were pregnant shortly after he came out of the hospital and brought a much needed ray of hope into all your lives.
-She’s the sweetest little child ever, and such an easy baby. She loves to cuddle, especially with her Papi. When she first starts giving kisses (less of a kiss and more just her opening her mouth and mashing it against your cheek or lips leaving puddles of drool in her wake) she’s picky about when she gives them to you and Rafael but never denies her Papa. Freddy is very smug about it.
-She’s got big green eyes, chubby cheeks, and your hair color. She’s stubborn just like her fathers you love to watch her give them a taste of their own medicine. Mariana’s favorite toy is the Teddy bear that Freddy picked out when he found out you were pregnant. It’s light blue, super soft and cuddly, and at age 1 and a half it’s just about half her size. She can’t sleep without it and it’s always tucked safely under her arm, even when you leave the house
Trips to the beach aren’t easy with two kids, but they’re always worth it. At 6.5 years old Mariana is READY as soon as summer hits. She’s gone bathing suit shopping with her Papa, and picked out “the cutest suits EVER” for herself and her one year old brother.
Of course it’s not just bathing suits she picks out, she’s similar to Frederick in that way. She loves extravagance, and is a bit of a show off. For herself she picks an adorable one piece with a skirt, glamorous heart shaped sunglasses, and a big floppy hat that matches her sandals.
Rafael chuckles as she strolls past him out of the bathroom with a towel slung over her shoulder and the glasses placed lazily on the tip of her nose.
“Ready for the beach, Papi?” She asks, peering at him over the glasses. Rafi had just wrestled with Luciano to get him dressed, he was sweating up a storm and just wanted to rest for a minute. But there was no way Mari was going to let that happen.
“I’ll be ready after I hand Luke over to Mami, Princesa.” He replied, bouncing the whining baby on his hip. Mari simply nodded in response and skipped off to make sure Frederick was ready.
Rafael found you in your room, rubbing the finishing touches of sunscreen on your legs. He admired you for a moment, taking the time to watch your hands trail up and down. After a more than a few seconds you felt his eyes on you. You looked up to catch his gaze, and rolled your eyes when you saw his devious smile.
“You don’t look ready.” You observed as you stood up and pulled on your bathing suit cover up. Rafael sighed heavily and shot Luke a tired look. You walked up to them and held your hands out. Luke only held on to Rafael tighter.
“Mijo, you need to go see Mami so I can get ready.” He pleaded with the one year old, who’s only response was to shake his head no. You laughed, Rafael had scarcely gotten any rest this week. Luciano was stuck to him like glue, and he was not an easy baby to take care of.
“Come on” you said, prying Luke out of Rafael’s arms. He started crying, looking back at Rafi with big tear filled eyes. Rafael ran a hand through is messy hair as he hurried away, trying to save himself from the heartbreak of watching his son reach out to him while sobbing.
“Let’s go see what Papa is up to.” You cooed, trying to soothe your distressed baby. He wiggled in your arms, huge tears streaming down his tiny face. You wiped his tears then smoothed out his unruly hair. The state him and Rafi were in when they came to you made you think getting him dressed must have been quiet the wrestling match.
“What’s going on out here?” You asked as you walked out to find Mari marching around the bags set down in the living room, pad of paper and pen in hand.
“Inventory.” She replied very seriously, you choked back as laugh, recognizing the same look of determination on her face as Rafael’s. “Is Papi ready yet?”
“Not yet.” You replied, she gave you one of her signature eye rolls (not unlike her Papi) and went back to counting shovels and pails. Luciano’s crying hadn’t quite settled down yet, his face was red and he had snot dripping out of his nose.
“Here” Frederick said, startling you as he came out of nowhere with a tissue. You smiled and took it gratefully. Luke fought you, whipping his head side to side to avoid the tissue. Once you finally got his nose wiped you handed him off to Frederick.
“Are you all ready?” You asked, strolling into the kitchen to throw away the nasty tissue. Luciano calmed every so slightly in his father’s arms. His eyes were beginning to droop and you suspected he tired himself out with all his crying.
“Yes. Everything is all set, love.” He replied, placing a gentle kiss to your forehead. “Shall we pack the children in the car as we wait for Rafael?”
“Sounds good to me” you said before looking over to Mari, “everything accounted for?”
She threw you a thumbs up with a bright and beautiful smile. Frederick held a now calm Luciano as you and Mariana loaded all of your gear into the car. When you were done Mari stood with a hand on her hip, using the other to wipe the sweat from her brow.
“Whew, I’m going to need a juice box after this Mami.” She said, sounding far beyond her years. You chuckled, thankful for both the help, and comedic relief she offered.
“You deserve one, why don’t you go in the house and get it. And while you’re in there tell Papi to hurry up.” You said scooting her along. She ran into the house, flip-flops slapping on the pavement underneath her.
Freddy sat in the back seat of the car, giving Luke a bottle and you fiddled with the air conditioning while you waited for Raf and Mari. Mari walked out first, juice box proudly in hand. Rafael followed closely behind, helping Mari into her carseat before slipping into the driver side. You leaned over and gave, a very tired, Rafi a kiss before he pulled out and you begin your journey to the beach.
After 40 minutes of singing Baby Shark, playing eye spy, and Mari asking “are we there yet?!” you practically dove out of the car once it was parked. There were two kids, and three of you, that meant one of you got to relax for a bit while the others watched the kids. You planned on being the first.
Rafael found the perfect spot on the beach to set up camp, not too far away from the water, but not too close either. Luke napped the entire car ride there so he was bright eyed and ready to go once everything was done. You sniffed him just to double check that Rafael put sunscreen on him before you left; he did.
Mari skipped down the beach with a bucket at the ready, determined to find the perfect seashell. Frederick joined her, protectively holding her small hand in his as they searched together. Freddy still hasn’t fully adjusted to his lack of depth perception and Mari enjoys being able to help him out, it makes her feel like an adult.
“Come on Mami” Rafael said, tugging at your free hand. “Let’s go bring Luciano to the water.” You couldn’t help but smile at how eager Rafi sounded as he pulled the two of you down the beach.
When you reached the water you tried to put Luke down, so the waves would lightly wash over his chubby little toes. But he clung on to you for dear life, looking up at you with pleading eyes. So you sat down with him in your lap, his feet a comfortable distance from the water.
Rafael took some water in his hands and put it on Luke’s feet. As he was doing that you were surprised by two small arms wrapping around your neck from behind.
“Hola, Mami!” Mari exclaimed cheerfully, burying her face in the back of your neck. “Papa and I found the prettiest shells. Now I want to go swimming!”
“That’s good baby, go right ahead. Show Luke he has nothing to be scared of.” You said pulling her to your side so you could attack her sun warmed cheeks with kisses. She giggled before throwing herself into Rafael’s arms, covering his cheeks with kisses.
“Come on Papi!” She said, hanging off of Rafael’s neck dramatically “let’s show Luke how it’s done!”
Rafael laughed heartily as he scooped her up, spinning her a few times before heading into the water. Frederick sat by your side and watched as ⅖ of your little family squealed at the contrast of the cold water on their warm skin.
“How ‘bout it, Luke?” You asked, lifting him up above your head. His mouth opened into a wide smile, you skillfully dodged the trail of drool that followed. You held him so he was facing you and Frederick and dipped his toes in the water.
Luke’s face was blank, you and Freddy held your breath as you waited for his reaction. You could hear Rafael and Mari laughing and splashing around in the background and it must have gotten Luke’s attention. He turned around to see his sister and wobbled as he took a step forward.
Frederick reached out to catch him but you stopped his hands before he could. Stone faced and heart beating anxiously you watched as you little one plopped into the water. He landed safely on his bum and started to giggle, splashing his hands a little in the waves.
You let out the breath you were holding and cheered scooping him up into your arms. Carefully you got up and offered your free hand to Frederick, helping him out of the sand. The three of you met with Rafael and Mari and told them about Luke.
“Oooo I’m so proud!” Mari squealed as she playfully pinched at Lukes feet under the water before swimming over to Frederick. Who was holding onto your waist tightly, trying to keep his balance.
“That’s my boy!” Rafael beamed grabbing Luciano from your arms and hugging him close to his body. “Now we teach you to swim!”
“Isn’t it a bit early for that?” you asked furrowing your brow, squinting a little in the sunlight as you tried your hardest to see Rafi’s face.
“Papa! Look what I can do!” Mari yelled behind you before disappearing under the water. Poor Frederick damn near had a heart attack before she popped up and exclaimed “I can even keep my eyes open!”
“It’s never too early to teach them!” Rafael countered, slyly lowering luke so his feet and ankles were fully submerged in the water. “First we start with kicking..”
“Don’t you dare” you said, your smile betraying your stern tone. Rafael cocked an eyebrow at you, grinning devilishly.
“Kick, mijo! Splash Mami, and Papa!” He said, and Luciano did exactly as he was told. Having the time of his life splashing water in you in Frederick’s direction. He laughed with his whole baby body as you and Freddy dramatically reacted to the water.
Soon Mari happily joined in, splashing you and Frederick as well. Both of your children were in their glory, since they loved to splash but you never allowed them to do it in the bathtub. You all took turns with the baby, letting them both splash each of you.
When you returned to the shore Frederick helped Mariana build the best sand castle on the beach and Rafael fell asleep on a towel underneath the umbrella. You made sure to snap as many pictures as possible; of Mari teaching Luke how to make a castle, and especially of Frederick burying Rafi in the sand while he slept as payback for the splashing.
Rafael was not very happy to be covered in sand when he woke up. So you offered to buy ice cream to brighten his mood. Luciano sat in Rafi’s lap as they shared some ice cream, and Mari cuddle up next to them with her cotton candy ice cream (she insisted on getting it even though she had never tried it because it was blue, and that’s her favorite color.) You rested your head on Frederick’s shoulder and he held you close with an arm around the waist.
“You and Papa look so cute!” Mari said, her bright green eyes sparkling in the sun as she spoke. “Papi, can I take a picture?”
Rafael gladly handed over his phone and Mari worked her magic. Spending the next 10 minutes orchestrating a family photo shoot. Making you all do some very serious, and very silly poses (there were also lots of selfies in the mix). The last picture she demanded you take was a family selfie with her in the middle. Later you had the picture framed and gave it to her as a gift. She’s very proud of it, she keeps it on her bedside table, and shows it off whenever possible.
Both kids passed out in their car seats on the way home. You held onto Rafi’s hand as he drove, smiling a bit when you heard light snoring in the back seat. You turned around to find that Frederick has fallen asleep with his book in his lap.
When you arrived home everyone washed up as soon as possible. Rafael is a bit of a stickler for finding sand in the house, he hates it. Once you were finished the five of you curled up on the couch together to watch a movie before going to bed. None of you made it to your beds that night. You were all too tired, passing out five minutes into the movie and not waking up until late the next morning.
How do Freddy and Raf handle Mariana being sick for the first time and y/n being at a conference and unavailable.
Terrible, to put it lightly. They worry, Frederick has had so many near death incidents he holds on to what he has for dear life. Rafael is so fiercely protective of all of you it kills him that she’s sick and he can’t make her feel better.
They call you right away to let you know what’s going on. It breaks your heart that you’re not there to comfort her and help your little family. But you assure Rafael and Frederick that they are more than capable of handling it on their own. You tell them that if need be you’ll head home early and to keep you updated. (They spam your group text with text and picture updates the entire time you’re gone. Your phone is going off so often you need to put it on silent.)
Though Frederick is a medical professional (he was never good at it) and hasn’t actually practiced in years. So the first thing they do is make a doctor’s appointment. Mariana has a very slight fever, cough, and her nose alternates between runny and stuffy. She is miserable and cranky. If she’s not being held she’s wailing, large tears streaming down her tiny round cheeks.
At the doctors office Frederick holds Mari close to his chest, snuggling her protectively, and kissing her head every so often to feel if her fever has worsened at all. Rafael paces impatiently in both the waiting room, and exam room. He refuses to sit when the doctor comes in and watches as they examine his baby with the eyes of a hawk. Frederick holds his hand, partly to comfort himself, and partly to try to reassure Rafael that everything will be fine.
The Doctor assures them that Mariana is perfectly healthy, aside from a little cold. They both breath a sigh of relief, Frederick taking her back into his arms and holding her closely as Rafi rubs her back. The doctor lets them know they can give her baby aspirin as directed on the package to bring down the fever, and that if her temp reaches over 104 to go to the hospital.
When they get back home they’re exhausted. They sleep in shifts taking turns watching her as she sleeps to make sure she’s still breathing. Rafael holds her close and sings to her, smiling as she looks up at him with her big green eyes.
You arrive home to a perfectly, happy and healthy baby; and two exhausted men. They both managed to catch Mari’s cold and now it’s their turn to be cranky and miserable. You tell them that you’re so proud of them and they did such a great job. It’s comforting to know that you can leave home and everything will be fine, your baby is in good hands with her fathers.
You giggle as you pick up Mari and she snuggles into you. Smiling at the two grown ass men whining on the bed about sore throats and headaches. You turn Mariana so she’s facing her fathers.
“Well baby, I guess it’s our turn to take care of them, huh?” you joke, tickling her sides just enough to earn a big toothless smile.
Ready for some real wholesome content ???? Bc I sure as fuck am:
-Chilton plays classical music to your belly as often as possible from the start of your pregnancy to the end.
-Rafael whispers to your belly in Spanish when Frederick isn’t paying attention. Telling your baby how much he loves them already and that he can’t wait to meet them.
-They’re both supportive in the delivery room. Holding your hands, feeding you ice, encouraging you every step of the way. All positive vibes.
-Chilton has a medical background and knows a thing or two. It’s comforting to know that he could tell if something was wrong and get you the proper care. Rafael already subtly threatened the doctor with a lawsuit should anything go wrong.
-They both cry when the baby is born, Rafael quietly, and Freddy lets a few happy sobs escape his lips. They shower you with praise and kisses while looking down at the new addition to the Barba-Chilton family with teary eyes.
-The three of you had fought for nine months about names. Freddy wanted them named after him, Rafael thought that was ridiculous, you weren’t sure why they were so stuck on the baby being a boy. It wasn’t until the bundle of joy was in your arms that you all agreed on the name; Mariana Catalina Barba-Chilton.
-When you get home the three of you fall into a rhythm rather easily. Frederick insists on getting the baby on a schedule and there is surprisingly no push back from Rafael. They had be complete saints through it all. When they found out you were pregnant they got dinner together, without you. And talked about setting aside their differences so you and the baby could have s stress free environment.
-Rafael sings Mariana to sleep, 9/10 times only his voice can get her down. Freddy gets a little jealous, but he’d be lying if he said it didn’t warm his heart to see. Besides he is the best at changing the poopy diapers.
-They take over a lot so you can nap. You don’t know how people take care of a newborn with less than three people. When you wake up from a nap you walk out into the living room and find Frederick and Rafael cuddled up on the couch together fast asleep. Mariana is sleeping soundly on Rafi’s chest and Frederick has a his hand lying protectively over her back.
