It's actually a bit more complicated than that - you'll need to learn how to write an AviSynth script. It only needs to be a few lines long and you seem like a pretty capable guy, but if you need any help, I'd be glad to lend a hand!

I've never done that sort of stuff, but I'm looking at a tutorial on YouTube and it seems pretty straightforward, so I'll give it a shot. Definitely one of those life skills I should probably have by now with this stuff anyway. Thanks! :D!

Hi! Have you tried using MeGUI for encoding? You can use DirectShowSource or FFmpeg to read the mp4 and then load VSFilter directly into the program for encoding, and it's worked pretty well with Japanese for me.

I haven't, but that sounds lovely! I take it I just basically drop the VSFilter DLL into a directory or something and away I go as normal?

I'm almost done with the first reencoding anyway, but I'll definitely try yours next anyway as a test run. Thanks for pointing it out to me! :D!
