“Monarch no.1” is a flax pulp painting on paper made from milkweed (floss and seeds) and kenaf. The Monarch lays its eggs on the milkweed which also serves as food for the caterpillar. The chemical makeup of milkweed also provides the caterpillar with defenses against predators. “Ruby-throated Hummingbird” is a flax pulp painting on paper made from abaca, kenaf, and cotton. I added red mica inclusions around the bird’s neck.
