Send me “alt!” and I’ll introduce you to a character I’ve rped in the past, want to play in the future or are currently playing somewhere else!
scotland was her. she was scotland. at such a young age, her innocence was taken away in favour of ruling a country. at the age of six days old she was already crowned the queen of scotland due to the untimely death of her father, her country was ruled by regents until she was ready to take care of her people and make decisions that she saw fit. she was a queen in her own right, responsible for all the lives and the way the people in her country would live. as a young girl, she’d accepted all of this wholeheartedly. accepted her fate that she would wed francis, become his wife and learn to fall in love with him, completely expecting that he’d want to learn how to fall in love with her, too.
but looking back, her life had been planned out. she didn’t have much of a choice, didn’t she ?? she had to sacrifice her innocence, her youth, her naivety, her choices because she had a much bigger duty to scotland; TO HER PEOPLE. it would be unfair if they suffered due to a teenage girl’s whims. she had to come to terms with the fact that she’ll never be able to make a decision for her own personal happiness. because she is the country; the country is her. and whatever she does, scotland will either prosper, or suffer.
queens don’t make choices for themselves, it was quite a hard concept to grasp. especially when she found herself having to choose between her country ( marrying tomas of portugal in order to secure her country’s safety ) or love ( hoping with francis that henry would eventually agree to help scotland ). but then again, queens do not marry for love, don’t they ?? this finally nailed inside her head when she agreed to marry tomas for his men, despite the fact that her heart YEARNED for francis.
‘love is irrelevant to people like us’, francis once said, and she gracefully accepted that. but if she was to choose the way she’d live in another lifetime, she’d like to have a go at what it means to be happy without conditions.
