Hear what Leimert Park Had to Say...
From July 26-31st, 2014 we spent a week in Leimert Park as part of Papillion Art's five-week video residency. We launched a yearlong series of recording sessions in this vibrant community, which was truly an honor!
Papillion Art is a new contemporary art gallery that aims to instigate a renaissance of sorts in the Leimert Park area. At its helm is Michelle Papillion, who is dedicated to the idea of bringing integrating bold new contemporary art from brilliant emerging voices into the community. Coupled with the area's history and legacy, this gallery is already making an impact and turning heads. Be sure to add it to your next Los Angeles itinerary.
We recorded several men and helped others download our app. The question themes ranged widely. From the thoughtful "What can black men do to alleviate the suffering that is occurring in the Black community?
to an intriguing question about cultural influence- "What was so good about Tupac? What did you take away from his life?", each new question begs a conversation.
We seek new video contributions from black men across the country to help change the narrative around Black Male identity. Download the app from iTunes (iPhones, iPads) or Google Play (Android) and contribute a response or new questions.
