wip wednesday
from a new fic
Joel Miller was someone you’d become acquainted with far too rapidly for your fragile heart. He was too rough and mean. The route the two of you took to tolerating one another was not tread lightly. For some reason, you were tasked with patrolling the camp. You’d never used a firearm in your life and only knew how to wield a chef’s knife.
liar chapter 4 er.
Why am I so fuckin’ stupid? What the fuck did you do? Those two questions swirled in Joel’s brain like an F5 tornado. He couldn’t wrap his mind around what would’ve possessed him to kiss that bitch. The sun was getting lower in the sky when he decided to slip on some shoes and head out for a walk, he needed to try to think about anything but the situation. Joel found himself at the entrance of the hotel you and Tommy were staying in, he walked into the lobby and sat on a chair near the cafe. One of the receptionists asked him if he needed any help checking in but was cut off by Tommy taking a seat. “She doesn’t want to see you, brother,” his expression was stern and somber. Joel could tell how disappointed Tommy had become. “I need to see-,” Joel was captivated by your steps, he’d recognize them anywhere. Before you noticed he mustered a greeting. “Hey, pretty girl.” His voice felt groggy. It was the effect you had on him. “Joel, why are you here?” You’d rolled your eyes at him so many times before, but he could tell this wasn’t the normal playful roll. “I wanted to apologize for what I did to ya. It was a horrible mistake, especially because it was at your own party. I’m so fuckin’ sorry, baby.” The words slipped from Joel’s mouth in pitiful haste. He wasn't one to beg or plead for forgiveness. But by this point, he was on his knees.

Summary: "There was a fire! (metaphorically)" Joel has been your best friend for about ten years, there's something starting to brew, but he always takes his sweet old time. word count: 1.45k
Meeting Joel Miller was by complete accident, but boy did it lead to a fruitful friendship of ten years. You met him when you moved to Austin, Texas at 18 to attend college. The two of you found an interest in each other’s line of work; he was a contractor and you were going to major in interior design. He helped you through all your finals, projects, failed relationships, heartbreak, and bouts of depression.
