Drive-by Rest Stop | Root + Jeremy
For the past few days, Jeremy had suffered from unnerving insomnia. He'd spend hours just staring up at the ceiling of his bunk, hoping for the blanket of sleep to come and cover him up, but it rarely came, and when it did, it was only in flashes. Usually, his eyes would flicker open after thirty minutes, covered in cold sweat as one of his more traumatic experiences flashed before his eyes. It was exhausting thinking about it, and rest soon became too much effort than it was worth whenever he actually did get it. Of course, it's not like he told anyone the real reason he couldn't sleep. It was always easier to chalk it up simply: I don't really know.
Thankfully, Root had offered to help him try something out. The man had invited him over to The Pit Stop, his own office for fixing up torn down vehicles, saying something about more comfortable sleeping areas inside a craft and while he wasn't exactly sold on the idea, he was intrigued by the prospect of finding out and of staying inside one, if anything, for the whole experience of it. "Loopy insomniac explorer, reporting for duty," he joked, half-yawning as he met up with the man who had been so kind to walk with him to the stop. It was probably the best thing too, despite his earlier apprehensions against it. It would have been faster this way, anyway. "Hey, thanks again," he spoke to the other man, not wanting him to think he didn't appreciate the effort. "To be honest," he started, "I'm kind of really excited."
