It was somewhere around two in the morning after the Winter Formal; a multitude of Irish trekked in and out of the McReary household, each there for a different purpose. Some had come from the formal, others were there on business, and others just to pop in for a visit. To an outside eye, it would seem like there was a get together happening at the McReary's, but in actuality, it was just like any other day.
Sophie sat with her bare feet propped up on a chair across from her, still in her formal wear, though her hair had begun to escape the elegant knot she had twisted it into. She sat with a bowl of grapes in her lap in the only place in the house that was quiet, the kitchen. If it had been any earlier or any later, the place would've been packed to the brim with people, and even then she could still smell the scent of alcohol in the air.
Why she had bothered with the stupid dance at all, she didn't know. There hadn't really been anyone to talk to that wasn't already preoccupied, and nothing but sour feelings had come from her awkward discussion with Colin. She bounced a grape back into the bowl tiredly, chewing while staring without seeing at the wall. She was torn from her thoughts as two loudly drunk women fell into the room, giggling and shrieking. Rolling her eyes and her nerves already frayed, Sophie picked up a tea cup and chucked it at the wall beside them, not bothering to get up from her perch.
"Fuck off, ya twats!" She snarled. She was certain if she had been anyone else, they would've given her grief, but most of the women that came and went from the house knew who she was, and better yet, knew just who her parents were. They scampered from the room, leaving the door swinging behind them as Sophie sighed and continued to eat her grapes in silent contemplation.
