Harmonic Melodies || Raleigh/Leon
In Raleigh's excitement at being on the Titanic, he had neglected to practice the morning before he worked. Therefore to make up for it, he had decided to go to the cafe he would be playing at in a trio early to warm up. He didn't want to embarrass himself the first time he played for Brady! The man had been his idol for years.
He arrived to the cafe an hour before he was meant to, dressed and with violin in hand. He quickly opened the case and smiled at the beautiful instrument in front of him.
"Just you and me again beautiful," he whispered to himself, gently caressing the violin's curves. In just the few hours of not practicing, he had missed the instrument. Meeting new people and exploring a ship was all fun and games, but being connected to the violin was where he truly felt comfortable. His violin was home.
He gently picked the instrument up and tightened his bow before tuning it and then running into some practice scales and arpeggios. Within seconds he could feel his pulse calming and his body relaxing. His fingers gained strength, and his bow moved on to some warm-up exercises and then to a run through of some of the pieces he would be playing in the cafe. Around him he began to hear the restaurant staff entering and setting the place up, but he continued to play on. He opened his eyes only briefly and saw a maid in her early twenties gawping at him. He a winked cheekily at her, but then returned to the melodies at his fingertips.
After finishing warming up, he looked at the clock and noticed he still had time, so he placed the violin back on his shoulder and began playing one of his favorite pieces: the simple yet haunting Schubert's Serenade. It was a piece his mother had loved, and within moments, he became immersed in the piece's melody and his memories of home, completely losing track of time. It wasn't until his bow gracefully finished the last refrain that he opened his eyes and noticed he had an audience. He quickly took the violin off his shoulder and straightened his clothes, before bowing.
"I'm sorry I didn't notice you, I wanted to get some practicing in before I played later. I hope I wasn't bothering you."
