Kane & Jasper & Quentin - Wolf vs Tiger: Round One
It wasn’t normal for Kane to sleep in but he’d found himself more at home in Quentin’s apartment than anywhere else. Besides that, they weren’t exactly going to sleep early these days. He hadn’t meant to sleep so long that he missed Quentin getting up and ready for work before heading down. In fact, when Kane did wake up it was only because the sun started to hit his eyes and face. Streaming in through the curtains. He’d been a bit confused when he found Quen gone but less so upon learning it was near noon.
Rolling out of bed, the wolf made a pot of coffee, brushed his teeth, showered and dressed before heading down to the Bloom with an extra cup for Quen. He hadn’t expected to find anyone else but his Fae working behind the front desk but when his eyes landed on a pale, red head, Kane realized that was a stupid assumption to make. His eyes narrowed for a moment as he looked the other over. Quentin had told him he only had one other employee. Jasper. The man who belittled, and degraded Quen. Gave him drugs and then vanished.
“Quentin ‘round?” Kane asked making himself known to this stranger he already had a distaste for. He placed the coffee cups on the front desk away from the other man. “Mus’ be Jasper, right?” He asked knowing he had to be sure that this was the guy. That he wasn’t about to attack the wrong person. The last thing Kane needed was to lash out at some poor guy that Quentin had just hired or something. Even though he held back his anger for the time being he could feel it bubbling just under his skin. A heat. Burning and twisting had started to form as he thought about Quen wondering around the streets at night while high. Fucker was gonna regret that. Kane would be damn sure of it.
Arielle could pass as a spoiled little brat sometimes, but being raised to practically do nothing (not even get her clothes ready for the next day) was something she was used to. So when she found out she had to learn how to make her bed and do her laundry, which gave her plenty of headaches. And today was one of those days where headaches were going to be at the maximum. Starting to try to make her bed for the millionth time because the sheet that went on the mattress always got off and she couldn’t find a way to stay there like when the maids made her bed at home to then shower with almost cold water because someone used the hot water before and she run out of it.
Before screaming a tantrum of words a princess shouldn’t say, she put a short, sleeveless t-shirt and flip flops and went out of Toulach house to take a walk, if she stayed one minute more there, she’d be swearing like a man, and she was a lady, someone that never lost composure. Yes, she could be sarcastic and ironic sometimes, but something that characterized her was her kindness. She was a kind person but that island was practically transforming her into something she wasn’t, she was losing her essence. For the love of God, she was smart, she was a thinker, but her brain wasn’t cooperating on that place. She was lost. All she knew, all the studies, all the preparation for her to take the crown one day was useless there.
Clearly she wasn’t thinking at all when the walk took her to the docks; maybe it was mostly her heart and her unconsciousness (she was rational of course). Yet once she stopped to look where she was, she took a deep sigh before taking a seat on the wood floor; her legs hanging on the air as she felt the breeze and the smell of the sea brush her face gently. She saw the ships around and wondered when they could go home, if they ever went home. Somehow, all her thoughts came to her mind again, and that was a sign that the place somehow helped to think. The view was beautiful so she maybe should enjoy it without feeling her mind go at the speed of light. So she tried to concentrate on the sound of the waves and once she did it, she felt calmer, so calm that she didn’t hear the steps of someone approaching towards her.
Being inside the Bloom again was a bit odd. Not that Sammy didn’t like it. The place was covered in plants and that alone soothed his inner Fae. The energy they gave off was intoxicating but that wasn’t the reason he had decided to swing by. With Jasper still working here, he had wanted to catch his little brother off guard and pop in on him. Drag his ass out to lunch and hopefully dig into his life a little bit. See what he’d been up to. Check in. Maybe that made Sammy a noisy older brother and if that was the case, so be it. He’d made his peace with that idea a long time ago. Better to be noisy than not involved at all.
Upon finding the front counter, Sammy couldn’t see Jasper. Maybe he wasn’t working today. Making a bit of a face, he rang the little bell at the front desk. “Hello!” He called into the shop, and dragged out the word nice and long. “Anything besides roots and leaves in this place? Or should I just pay the tree in the corner for whatever goods I need?”
summary: with the help of candice, brandon and miles slip away for a moment during the party so brandon can thank miles by asking him a very important question.

Brandon:
it was a whirlwind of an evening - a beautiful occasion that only seemed to be getting better each passing moment. from his family being here to celebrate another year older to having his closest friends able to join them, it nearly perfection. /almost/. there was a slight chill in the evening air as brandon made his way onto the balcony of the venue, watching as the lights of the garden lit up the greenery in a mystical way. the feeling of his fingers wrapped around miles' own was enough to make their brief moment of relief from the party craze feel complete but his mind was still racing along with his heart at the adrenaline rushing through his system. "finally feeling like i can breathe," he exhaled, an anxious chuckle escaping past his lips as he turned to look at miles. he pulled him further onto the balcony, grinning helplessly as he took in the sight of his boyfriend before him. "you seriously have no idea how gorgeous you look tonight. i'm just - always in awe of you."
Miles:
the sudden compliment brought a smile to miles’ lips, the party atmosphere putting the young man into a great mood for that evening. of course, miles had never really been a social person and detested huge events, but there was something about getting brandon’s close friends together to celebrate his birthday that miles couldn’t help but to be excited about. maybe it was the look of happiness on his boyfriends face that fueled his desire to actually participate in things that night or perhaps it was the glass of wine that he’d consumed hours earlier; honestly, miles didn’t care too much to sit down and figure it out. in the end, he was just happy that he was able to be there to celebrate things with the man he loved. although, when the chance to sneak off and take a breather came up, miles was quick to jump on it and follow brandon out to the balcony for a moment. “oh, quit it.” he chuckled at the words, leaning against the banister as he watched brandon, fingers still connected to the other’s. “are you have fun tonight?” miles asked after a moment, smile still present on his lips as they stood there in the cool night air, the party muffled and forgotten for the smallest of seconds.
Brandon:
it was a complete rush. courage pumping through his veins as he tried his best to swallow all the anxiety that was building up in his chest over the course of these few weeks. it was hard to keep his knowledge of the party a secret, wanting nothing more than for miles to bask in the glory of thinking he got brandon good. it was the perfect surprise for a surprise in his eyes, even if brandon knew of the party all along. still, the gleam in miles' eyes didn't go unnoticed - proud of all his hard work and secrecy over these past two weeks and the last thing he wanted to do was kill that, u the time was growing closer and the night had only just begun. "you do - you always manage to remind me just how gorgeous you are," he reaffirmed, stepping closer to his boyfriend as he rested his free hand on miles' cheek. slowly, he leaned in to brush his lips against the younger's own, pad of his thumb caressing the smooth expanse of his cheek. "i am. this is the most amazing thing you've ever done for me. i can't even believe it."
Miles:
the party seemed to fade into the background for a moment, the realization that they weren’t actually alone slipping from miles’ mind. all he cared about in that moment, in any moment, was brandon and just how close their slim bodies were. the butterflies were never going to go away and miles was quite okay with that. pulling away from the gentle kiss, he watched brandon closely, lips pulling into a soft smile. it was a type of softness that was rarely seen on the younger beings face, but the type that was impossible to hide when his boyfriend was around. “i’m glad. you’ve been working so hard and i just wanted you to relax and have fun for a night.” it was only a few seconds before miles was leaning in for another kiss, always craving the feeling of brandon’s lips against his own. “i love you, you know that? the only man i’ve ever loved... or will ever love.”
Brandon:
the way the light casted along miles' features had his legs feeling weaker than they were moments before, wanting nothing more than to have the man he loved desperately close to him. there was so many thoughts racing around his head, attempting to catch even one but brandon knew that this was the right thing to do. he knew that miles was all he would ever want in this lifetime and his boyfriend's words only further soothed his ongoing apprehension tonight. another kiss was stolen from his lips and brandon's hand lingered along the man's cheek before resting upon the side of his neck. "and i can't thank you enough for it," he began, letting his lips melt into the shorter male's own before pulling back slightly. "and you know i love you too, right? nothing can ever change that. not by a long shot. you're - you're it for me." his words were already making an impact on him but he managed to hold himself together enough to give him a helplessly wide grin. "so this - this was my big birthday present, huh?"
Miles:
the excitement seemed to bubble over, spreading throughout miles’ chest and warming him from the inside out. despite not being a social person at all, miles had managed to pull off a huge party and make brandon happy, so that was something to be proud of. “good. means we’re on the same page.” his head tilted to the side ever so slightly, the feeling of brandon’s hand against his neck making his heart race in ways that he could never understand. “it is. couldn’t have pulled it off without candice and a few others, so we’ll have to thank them later.” maybe a nice card or gift basket - whatever the hell it was people gave out these days to thank their friends for lending a hand. eyes still on brandon, miles stood perfectly still, silently admiring the man across from him. it was still hard to believe how much things had changed in the last year - the two of them going from being at each other’s throats to being back in love and glued at the hip. it was the only type of change that miles would welcome. “pretty wicked, huh?"
Brandon:
there was amusement that threatened to spill from the older male at the mention of candice, knowing that the female was playing a double agent the entire time but it was true. he couldn't have appreciated her more and the fact that miles had the same idea for thanking her, even if he hadn't a clue what for, was enough for brandon to know that they were going to cherish her after this night. honestly, he'd cherish her for a lifetime. "the little sneak. we're going to have to send her the biggest thank you basket of a lifetime after tonight," he agreed, lips finding their way to miles' temple as he lingered close to the other male. he could tell, seeing the way that miles' smile lit up so naturally that this truly was the perfect moment. it was everything that brandon could ever hope for, regardless of the nerves that were piling up in his chest. "insane!" he chuckled, though it slowly faded, a tilt of his head given as though he were thinking. " - but, you know. you didn't exactly get me /everything/ i wanted."
Miles:
curiosity bled in, miles slowly arching a brow as he listened to brandon speak. he was usually pretty good at reading his boyfriend, but miles would admit to being truly confused this time around. “hmm?” he hummed, smile slowly slipping from his lips as he stood there. not that he was disappointed or anything of the sort, just at a bit of a loss. “there’s still gifts in the house that you have yet to get around to...” this time, it was a chuckle that left his lips, giving up on his attempt to read the other. beating around the bush wouldn’t do them any good. “may i ask what it is that you want the most?” ‘cause he was willing to run out right now to get it. didn’t matter what time of night it was or the fact that he was in the middle of hosting a party, miles would always drop everything for brandon.
Brandon:
immediately, brandon could pick up on the flourishing anxieties that must've been rushing through the other's mind, feeling the confusion and near heartbreak from his words which is what left a bad taste in brandon's mouth for even toying with miles' mind in this way. his hands felt clammy in this moment, however, building up his courage to begin soothing the other's troubles. "i don't think that they're it either," he started, fingertips running along miles' skin on his neck, trying to provide even the slightest comfort that his words weren't providing just yet. there was a sudden emotion rising in his voice, making it waver before he could even get his words out. "i... i just thought about it a lot this year... about everything - all the things that i have always wanted and i never.. i um," a chuckle left his lips as he felt his eyes begin to water, letting out a nervous breath, trying to gather himself before continuing on. "the first year i ever met you, i wished... i wished that you would always be in my life. that i would always have you and it's funny to me because the year after that, last year - i wished for the same thing. and i never thought that i would be anything more than a wish." another breath was taken, this time one that inhaled all the bravery, all the love that his body contained for this man before him. "so... this year, all i want is to make sure that i have you this year and every year after that. all i want... all i want is - a yes."
with his hand still intertwined with miles' own and his eyes never leaving the man's own, brandon slowly lowered onto one knee, his free hand slipping into his pocket to pull out the small velvet box that candice had snuck into it only minutes ago. tears still pooled in his eyes as he chuckled from his overwhelming need to always cry during moments like these, knowing that miles was still awaiting the question that had been on the tip of his tongue for weeks now. holding out the open box that displayed the dark band, brandon's watery and hopeful eyes beamed up at the man he called his own and give him a helpless smile. "miles heizer, will you give me the greatest birthday gift i will ever receive? will you marry me?"
Miles:
it wasn’t unusual for the pair to launch into deep conversations, emotions often getting the better of them. it seemed to happen at any given moment - the threat of being suddenly sentimental about things forever present. miles was used to it, but he could tell something was different this time around. if anything, the sudden wetness of brandon’s eyes were enough of a giveaway. “are you alright?” he asked, confusion replaced with worry. the last thing miles wanted was for the other to start crying, especially if the source of tears was from a type of sadness that had gone undetected all night. then, before miles could even begin to process what was happening, brandon was on one knee and things suddenly clicked. this wasn’t a heartbreaking conversation, it was a proposal. a marriage proposal. air seemed to slip from miles’ lungs, blue eyes locked on the other in shock. was this really happening? it was a night of surprises, but this was by far the biggest surprise of all. “i....” miles began, but the words seemed to die on his tongue. all he could do was stare, hand still tangled with brandon’s. life really did have a funny way of turning around. “i ... -- yes. of course. yes .... yes..... yes!” a soft chuckled slipped from between his lips, pulling brandon back up and crashing their lips together in a fiery kiss, the shock fading into pure excitement. “you bastard. i put together this party and somehow you still manage to pull off the biggest surprise. i love you. i love you so fucking much.”
Brandon:
it felt like a lifetime of waiting, waiting and wondering. heart racing and no breathing. it felt like eternities were passing by while realization began to dawn on the man before him, crystal eyes nearly widening twice their size at the sight of the band residing in the box. it seemed like everything was flashing before him, every moment they ever spent together colliding in one instance and all he could do was hope that forever started in this moment. this was everything he ever dreamed of. miles was all he ever wanted. it was then that reality set in, hearing that final word draw from miles' lips making his smile spread like wildfire, tears falling helplessly as he was pulled back up and into the man's embrace. "YES!" he shouted, nearly in triumph before his lips melted into miles' own. it was passionate, stealing his very breath from his lungs once again while he held his fiance's face in his grasp. "i couldn't help it! i just wanted it to be perfect and this is beyond everything! i love you. i love you so so much! you said yes!" he couldn't help but chuckle in between kisses, holding miles's face before burying his face in his neck. without any time to waste, he pulled back only to take the younger's left hand in his own, removing the ring from the confines of its box to carefully slip the band on miles' finger. admiring it for a moment, he leaned down to brush his lips against the top of his hand before holding it tightly. "i love you, miles heizer. you're the only birthday present i will ever want."
After her conversation with Hunter, Frankie had just broken down crying, she couldn’t believe that he was so mad at her, that he was...treating her like this. And why? Because she had done something to try and protect her brothers? Yes, maybe it had backfired, but she just...couldn’t do it anymore, and she had just decided to be with Cam. Maybe...it was wrong...and maybe she was being selfish, but it didn’t feel that way. She closed her eyes and went downstairs and snuck into her father’s office, wanting to get something out of her dad’s liquor cabinet, but she frowned, closing her eyes. She looked for the key for a few minutes, but frowned when she realized that her father must have moved it or didn’t put it back where he usually did so she ran her hand through her hair and tried to decide what to do. She took a deep breath and then walked out, going to find Miles. She didn’t bother to knock and instead just walked in, sitting down on his bed, she looked down at the ground. “Talk to me and distract me from breaking into dad’s liquor cabinet.”
stfugriffin "Fuck fuck fuck-" Tai gripped the material of her sleeves, tugging it down till the material covered her sweating palms. The girl was pacing back and forth in front of Miles' door, practically burning a hole in the carpet and wearing a hole in her bottom lip from her habitual gnawing. Miles and her had a certainly tumultuous relationship to say the least. One minute they were bickering and the next they were fucking. Which is exactly what had gotten her into this whole mess. Her fist was raised against the heavy door separating the two, poised ready to knock, but the overwhelming bundle of nerves twisting in her gut made her think twice. Maybe he wasn't there. Maybe he was with Braeden or Carter, or whoever his mind fuck victim of the week was. Maybe he'd laugh in her face like it was all some big joke. Maybe he'd demand her to get away from him like she was diseased. Stop coming up with excuses, Tai. The girl bitterly thought to herself. Don't be a fucking coward. She found herself thinking of her birth mother. What it was like for her to tell the boy she'd met just a week before that she was having his brat. Tai could feel the bile rising in her throat as she pictures her mother, the woman she hardly remembered, going through something like this. But instead of worrying what the man would say, she was more worried about how much it would cost to just get rid of the unborn child. How much it would save her in the long run, being able to spend money on pills instead of a child. Pushing the thoughts down, she glanced over at his door from where she had paused in her pacing. She had to do it. A sharp knock on the door alerted him of his presence. "Miles?"
Miles is tense. And no, she's not tense because of last night, or the night before that--She's tense because she knows that Ollie will be home soon and that means that she'll have to talk to him and that they'll have to have that conversation. The one she's been thinking about ever since she realised that she really doesn't agree or identify with the sex she was born with. Her eyes are wet, and her knees are tucked up as she lays on the bed, ears listening actively for Ollie's key to turn the lock and the door to swing open and his melodically deep voice to fill the house. And she's scared. They've done some stuff in the bedroom mildly pertaining to this thought, but now it's not really the same, and she doesn't know how Ollie will react.
