The Questioning
WHO: Sebastian Smythe WHEN: Monday, September 20th; 1:34 PM WHERE: WMHS WHAT: Surprisingly not a flashback to Sebastian’s sexual experimentation, but merely Sebastian being interrogated by the police over the Harmony Fiasco.
Sebastian’s heart had nearly beat its way out of his chest after having to show his locker to the officer. He’d already found one not-so-legal surprise the other day, he was nervous that he may find another, but thankfully there were no more bottles to be found. Just a few books and stray pencils, and then he was escorted off to be questioned. He tried to reason with the officer, convince him that it was entirely unnecessary as he wasn’t even in Lima for a good portion of the summer, but the officer ignored him and left him waiting outside of a room in an uncomfortable chair until his name was called by another officer.
The man stood before a table, gesturing to an empty chair which Sebastian slumped down into as they exchanged pleasantries. He crossed his arms over his chest, wishing this was over already, as the officer began questioning him.
“How did you know Harmony Pearce?”
Sebastian sighed, “I didn’t. I just transferred here, the most I knew about her was that she was apparently very popular.. and then she was very dead.”
The officer didn’t seem entertained with his answer, but continued, “Do you know if Harmony had any enemies?”
Sebastian couldn’t help but smirk, thinking about the messages and the drama that was already beginning to start up, “Everyone seems to have enemies around here, I wouldn’t be surprised if she did. High school is built on rivalries and sexual encounters, after all.” He stopped, thinking for a moment, “She obviously went wrong somewhere…”
Ignoring his last comment, the officer pulled out a bag containing a necklace with the letters ‘M.H.P.’ engraved onto it, “Have you seen this necklace before? We found it on Miss the night she died and it’s obviously not hers.”
Sebastian glanced at it and shook his head, “Never.” He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, “Look, I’ve already tried to tell you, I wasn’t even in Lima for most of the summer. I don’t know anything about what happened to Harmony Pearce, I obviously wasn’t involved, and I’m not going to be any help to your investigation.”
The officer put his hands on his hips, staring down at Sebastian as he moved straight along, “As a cop of ten years, I’m dedicated to finding out who did this to your classmate. We will be doing everything we can to find out what happened to her. You’re safe in this room so if there’s anything you wish to tell me, you can. Is there anything you wish to say?”
A dry laugh escaped the boys throat, “I don’t think we’re really safe anywhere…” At the cocked head of the officer, he shook his head. “Never mind. No, there’s nothing I can tell you. I mean, it’s great that you’re so dedicated to the case or whatever, but I can’t help you. I don’t know anything.”
The officer nodded. “Thank you for your time, I’ve just one final question. Miss Pillsbury, has she been acting out of character lately?”
Sebastian’s brow furrowed, “Isn’t she the nutcase counselor? I don’t know, I don’t know what her usual is like.” He shrugged but stood up, nodding once to the officer before quickly exiting the room.
