Half As Much - Andy & Blake
Something was wrong. As hard as Blake had tried to get that thought out of his mind, the ache in his stomach wouldn't let him forget it. He had seen his fiance slip into the baby shower and leave with his sister. His behavior had been too odd for Blake to dismiss. Blake tried to be polite and stay but eventually he could no longer ignore his concern for Andy. He drove around for a bit, went back home and tried calling him repeatedly. When Blake finally got a hold of Andy he realized that his intuition must have been correct. Andy had given him very little information over the phone but he immediately thought of Luke. It had been something he had wanted to avoid, he didn't want to automatically assume that Luke was dead, but Blake could not think of another explanation for the difference in Andy. His voice said everything. Luke was gone.
As he drove to the Simmons residence he thought over how he was going to deal with the situation. Perhaps it was wrong to think like this, but Blake kept hoping that Luke was only injured. It'd be easier to grieve the loss of a leg than the death of a brother. Blake sighed, this wasn't going to help Andy. He decided to stop trying to come up with solutions now because everything he considered was wrapped in denial. There was a the chance that he was wrong, that Andy had developed a new way to blow things out of proportion - No, stop. Blake squeezed the steering wheel tightly and tried to control the ill thoughts from rushing in. Even if he was wrong, or especially if he was right, he didn't need to be taking it out on Andy. Blake knew that when it came down to it he was just scared of what he might walk into once he got to the house.
Blake turned down the street, passed his own parent's house, and kept driving until he saw Andy's car. He parked behind it and sat in his car for a few minutes. This wasn't about him, Blake reminded himself, he needed to pull himself together and take care of Andy. After taking a deep breath, he climbed out of his car and approached Andy's childhood home. At the door he gave a couple of knocks before inviting himself in. "Andy?" He softly called out. Blake didn't know where he'd find the Simmons and he didn't want to intrude, even though Andy had asked him to come over, so he kept his pace slow as he walked through the house. Each step brought him closer to knowing what had happened and he almost wished that he could turn back around. That was cowardly though. He couldn't abandon his fiance when he needed him.
