I know that as people nothing will be canon due to our subconscious biases, but how does one try and write MinuteTech, Eggchan, and Wemmbu??

hmmm yesyeysyeysyes!! they're all so very interesting!! (mostly gonna write this by comparing them to each other)

for my characterization of Minute, he's got a strong moral compass (maybe due to the stuff with invis mafia making him want to make up for what he's done to the server) and that can make him susceptable to false promises or deception because he always wants to see the best in people and do the right thing. he is also very nonchalant BUT he does have emotions (I think). coming from my knowledge of CC!Minute, I think he just doesn't really know he has emotions/doesn't know how to express them, so he just speaks in a monotone and leans heavily on his voice lines (D'alright, so we're trolling, ayo, yello) which makes it really clear in UU when he's talking with a goal in mind (like the goal of the convo in the script I mean) because he doesn't use those voice lines as often. I translated this into his character as him mentally planning out beforehand for conversations and always tries to keep the conversations focused on the topic he wants to get a conclusion about/understand something about. he does tend to be more serious and say deep things without much strong emotion behind it.

Egg is also really fun because he's also nonchalant, but absolutely not in the same way as minute. he doesn't really get fazed by dangerous situations, I think the only time we've seen him actually crash out was right after he left the end and the law was chasing him and Wemmbu. I'd say while some of him being unfazed is due to his personality, a large part of it is the confidence knowing that Wemmbu will protect him/try to save him in whatever situation he's in, almost similar to Spoke's belief that Mapicc would never leave him( but in a calmer form), which definitely influences the dynamic between him and Wemmbu. while Egg doesn't get fazed by dangerous situations, he's definitely more emotional with his voice than Minute is and more emotionally aware in general. he picks up on what other's true intentions are better than most. he also leans on his voice lines, but less as a crutch when he doesn't know what to say and more like stimming, or as an unconscious, familiar banter with Wemmbu. (Egg might say something like 'bro, is this fit tuff?' 'bros just nonchalant like that' and he says 'yo' a lot.) a lot of his lines are diffusing tension or making the others laugh, which makes him come across as just comedic relief that isn't super aware of what's going on when usually he's actually paying attention and noting down what people are saying. he sometimes says things in a sort of deadpan/serious tone even when he's joking.

Wemmbu, similar to Minute, doesn't usually drop an emotional line. his form of commutation is really indirect, and he leans on lighthearted comments and jokes. especially in stressful scenarios, he laughs and jokes a lot, mostly as a way of dealing with the stress (I think). when I say that he isn't really emotional, I don't mean that in the same way as Minute. because while Minute would say something very vulnerable without much emotion in his voice, Wemmbu's voice and tone and word choice is usually very expressive, he's really loud and energetic (especially in stressful scenarios) but it doesn't really have much connection to what he's actually feeling. most of what he says and does especially when surrounded by people is him portraying himself as someone who is playful, unserious, and not much of a threat (although from power arc and onward he tries to make himself as more than a threat, but his form of masking his emotions kinda makes it harder). he's kind of picked up on the voice lines around him (D'alright (from minute) hey buddy! (from pentar) bro's just... (Egg)). he tries really hard not to let anyone else know that he cares about the people around him (and also tries to convince himself he doesn't care as well) and typically doesn't immediately start caring about every new person around him, but after he's gotten to know someone, he cares very strongly about their well-being. you can see that especially with Egg.

hopefully this was helpful for you! and yeah, some of it is definitely a little biased on my interpretation.

Writerly folk among my followers who use AO3: is there an accepted tag for tagging stories that, while they include romantic relationship subplots, are NOT boilerplate romance novel beats? Not that there’s anything wrong with those, I just personally don’t write that sort of rigidly structured and formulaic thing, and would like to avoid misdirecting readers. I always thought that the “romance” tag is sort of like the “adventure” tag -- broad and encompassing of all sorts of narratives, but perhaps I’m wrong? I could of course write an author’s note, but I was wondering if there’s a specific tagging practice?  Or is it that reader expectations have changed, and the tag has become more formulaic?

Anyway i'm making a Jadenbu fic with spoke as their son, and I want to ask if you think is a good ideia to drop the lore I made up for voidilings as Spoke explaining to Mappic or should it be Minute telling spoke?(thought the scene Spoke already knows he is just spiraling cus he has too much on his mind

hmm that is interesting. It's kinda hard to say because I don't know everything about your fic but I'd say in general to drop lore, you'd want it to be told to a character who wouldn't know about it previously so it comes off more natural, so I'd go with Spoke to Mapicc. it also helps to make it feel less like a lecture and more like a conversation!

twas a kab kaboodle fic! but the focus was more on Kab getting clown a dress for prom (he got asked to it by branzy) and less on her actually being the goddess of death so I dropped it :( I might rewrite it at some point if I feel the desire too but Kab's not really my main so it's pretty low priority if any.

attempt #1 was my first attempt to write a fic for a non-mcyt fandom! it's a Saiki K fanfic that I don't even remember the plot of anymore :( chances are that one will be finished at some point, as one of my goals for this year is to write for a new fandom. realistically the only other fandom I would write a fanfic for is Shoot From The Hip which would objectively be harder.

oh boy, do I! I was gonna put these notes on the fic as well, but they simply are too long to fit in the notes box. thank you so much for releasing the minmape rambling!!

there were so many scenes that I wanted to put in or cut out or considered. spoilers below if you haven't read my minmape fic. warning that it's also a bit rambly (and very very long)

one of my goals with this fic was to not make them have the same typical relationship most books seem to have. I'm sure everyone's read a romance fic or book in which the MC has a crush and it's awful. as in, they never stop blushing or stammering, and MC always feels uncomfortable whenever their crush is in the room. also! the idea that you can just magically fall in love with someone at first sight and how when couples seem to merge together into one person and stop having separate lives or personalities? that genuinely sounds like a living hell. why would anyone wish to spend a lot of time or even the rest of their life with someone you barely know that makes you overheat, overthink, stress, etc? and why would you spend every waking hour with the same person, merging your interests and lives together so thoroughly that you can't tell them apart?

I wanted to write a fic that didn't feel like that. but also, I wanted to write a fic that has variation in how attraction/romance is portrayed, because Mapicc's experiences (thinking of Minute's physical appearance and blushing around him as well as other things) fit closer with the typically written idea of romance than Minute's. but they're both still valid ways of experiencing attraction, and you don't need to be experiencing the same kind of attraction to have a relationship.

another thing I considered in this fic while writing it is that. it's rpf. meaning, there's the pressure that comes with being a YouTuber and having so much of your life public and viewable. it's less obvious, I think, and isn't a main focus, but it definitely affects the way the characters act.

one of the earliest scenes I wanted to add but decided not to was minute right after the phone call where he accidentally confessed to mapicc. he had somewhat of a panic attack, was freaking out and it was really fun to write. he almost called mapicc several times but eventually decided to just pretend it never happened. I cut it out because I couldn't resist ending it right after he realizes that he just told mapicc he loves him, it was a a perfect place to end it. plus, I didn't want to over explain it, because if I've written well enough they the readers should be able to guess that he majorly freaks out over it without me writing it out.

so there were several scenes that I cut out or changed because they were communicating too well too early. one of them, set after the 12th chapter. instead of Leo coming to break up the conversation, they (for some reason) started arguing about what they'd want to define their relationship as. I cut it out for several reasons. they were communicating too much, it quickly made both of them uncomfortable, they both clearly weren't ready for the conversation, and overall it felt OOC.

another ending to that 12 chapter I have is Minute and Mapicc simultaneously realizing that they're going to have to go back to their separate (ish) lives away from each other and both start getting really upset/sad about it I cut it out because that chapter was already long, they'd already had one emotional conversation that chapter, and it felt a little out of place.

there was another scene, in the 13th chapter, where Mapicc gets pretty upset and introspective. I cut it out because I didn't want the fic to be so in-your-face about Mapicc's internalized toxic masculinity, and besides, he's supposed to be only partially aware of it, and in the scene it came off as he was more aware of it than I wanted him to be. also, when he got pretty upset about it, he came off as more angry, and minute trying and not doing his best to help him calm down didn't help either. there's no real easy way to address something like that in one conversation, which is what they were trying to do, so I made Mapicc's thoughts go in a different direction instead. (part of that was because there was the mouse scene that I really, really wanted to happen right before that, and it was a very different tone that just wouldn't mix well)

interestingly, I wrote most of the 13 chapter from Minute's POV. the chapter got to about ~9k words and I knew I had to cut it off. for most of the fic I had a clear idea of who's POV I wanted when, but for the last few chapters it was harder to choose. I got so attached to both of them them that it was hard to decide. to be fair, both of them had very interesting thoughts and emotions during those chapters.

a scene I never wrote but thought about a lot. set in the 13th or 14th chapter, around when Mapicc's asking Minute about whether he'd want to be kissed, right after Mapicc's come to the decision that Minute doesn't want to and he's not going to. Mapicc asking Minute if it's okay if he kisses Minute in his head. as in, thinking about kissing him but not actually doing that. and Minute's response is somewhat baffled, because he doesn't really understand why someone would enjoy thinking about kissing someone else. for Mapicc, fantasizing about kissing Minute is fun because he actually wants to kiss him, while for Minute, fantasizing about kissing Mapicc is about as fun as poking a dead toad with a stick. interesting, a little disgusting, depending on how much you like poking dead toads with sticks. moreover, he decides he doesn't really care whether Mapicc kisses him inside his head as long as he doesn't tell him about it. and that cements Mapicc's suspicions that Minute doesn't really to be kissed. I couldn't find a spot for this scene, it came into my head too late to shove it in the fic anyway. it would've helped show the differences between Mapicc and Minute's attraction to each other as well as the readers, but it wasn't necessary for them to understand that it's different, so it was never written.

there are other scenes that were deleted or never written. I would've loved to have Mapicc and Rek actually talk and bond and add more to the story, but unfortunately once I was confident in how their conversation would go it was too late. similarly, I wish I could've expanded on the friendship Wemmbu and Minute have, because it's complicated and I think I could write a whole separate fic about it honestly (that is NOT happening). overall, I wish I could've included the other members as more than just side characters (or not flat side characters, at least).

also, Mapicc and Minute (in the fic) are going to have to make a plan of how they're going to navigate their relationship and not have the fans figure it out. it could lead to some really interesting scenarios that could've been fun to write.

anyways, I think that's all I have!

thank you thank you thank you! so much effort was put into researching Mapicc & Minute and their (few) interactions and the way they talk and act and what they like. it feels really good to hear that it's all paid off.

"the way Mapicc wants to kiss him so bad but knows he can’t" yeah! yeah!!! yeah mapicc wants to kiss him so bad, half his thoughts are about kissing him! it's so fun to write, especially when you compare it to Minute's thoughts. and yeah, he's coming to the conclusion that he can't/won't, while minute is still figuring that out for himself.
