Today, the second Sunday of Triodion, we remember the parable told by our Lord about the Prodigal Son. After a son asked for his inheritance from his father, he left for a far away land, living in surplus and iniquity, only to find that after he had spent all his inheritance, there was a great famine in the land. He was left with nothing and ended up living with the swine, eating their food with them. He then remembered his father and went back to his house, begging to be received as a lowly servant. But his father was waiting for the son with arms open wide, putting on a banquet with the best and fatted calf and made a great celebration. The father said that his son was dead, but is alive again; he was lost, but now is found. This parable is read to encourage us that no matter how far away from God we’ve gone in the past year, He is waiting with arms open wide for us in order to journey with Him and carry His Cross to Golgotha and then to the Resurrection.
