Cape Cod. Even when the weather is bad, you can still make a good image. This view of Ballston Beach is from a knoll along the pathway to the beach.  The path used to be a roadway that went along the back side of the beach and connected to the road where I shot from previously.  The connecting roadway was swallowed long ago.  The remaining road is buckled and being devoured by the elements.  Two paradigms I'm trying to constantly work into my project are the importance of place and the element of trace.  I want a photograph that is beautiful yet also documents the state of the place where I am and the relevance of its current condition.  I also want it to present the evidence of the conceptual theme of the changing natureof Cape Cod.  The relocated building with the red doors and the overwashed sand in the marsh represent the traces left of past environmental change and also portend more change to come.  I want these images to function the way that Burtynsky's images present a landscape forever altered, never to return to a previous state or similar.  It's a little tougher because I'm not dealing with massive, readily apparent, self-explanitory vistas.
