I was tagged by the wonderful @writingonesdreams . Thank you so much for the tag :)
1. When starting something new, how much do you know about the story before you start writing?
I think it depends on the project. There have been moments when I see a prompt in passing and I’m possessed to just write and I churn out a ~1k oneshot with no planning or thought (and surprisingly it makes sense). But then other times, I can be planning the same project for years. My current WiP, Parallel Sparks has been in the works for 7 years now, most of which has been planning and getting to know the characters and setting. And I’m still learning new things about it.
2. What draws you to your WIP(s)? Why did you choose to write that/those over anything else?
Mostly, it’s just because it turned out that way. These were the stories that chose me. Also, in a way, these are the stories that I needed to hear growing up and it’s a great privilege to get to be the one to tell them.
3. Favorite writing spot? Why?
My desk. Because all my materials are here. It’s so cluttered and there’s so much I could be distracted by but someone I’m not. I’ve just set up the clutter in a way that it just gives ambiance.
4. Share your favorite line of what you’ve written so far!
“You’re not supposed to bleed”
5. If you had to choose one OC to bring to life as an actual person, which one would it be and why?
I can’t choose. Mostly because I couldn’t bear to tear them away from their friends. I mean, I’d love to make the villain real and date her...
6. Are you looking to get published? If so, do you hope to make it a career?
I am looking to get published, yes, but that’s a long way down the road I think. I think I’m in the minority of this view but I would keep writing and seeking publication, regardless of if people liked what I was writing or gave me feedback. I’m writing for my own sake and if I happen to make a few dollars from it, cool, but that’s never been the goal.
7. What’s something you would read but would never write (or the other way around)? Any reason?
I love to read smutty fanfic...but I’m super uncomfortable writing it.
8. What’s something you are most proud of about your work so far?
I feel like I’m tooting my own horn if I say my jokes are funny or my characters are consistent...How about that I actually outline now? That’s a major thing for me as I had no clue how to do it until literally this year.
9. Badly describe your WIP(s) in one sentence
Twins, Knee Jerk and Can’t Lie, use their new superpowers to say the city...and actually aren’t terrible at it?
10. Why did you want to be a writer?
I feel like I wasn’t really given a choice? Like I just started writing and it took over my life and now I can’t stop. Imagination is a dangerous drug and I’m hooked, there’s no life for me without it. Did I really just make a “I didn’t choose the x life” joke without meaning to? But really, I was given the means and encouragement to start me out, given that inch, and I took that mile and kept going.
