>suddenly remembers that Mahiru brings up an out of season fireworks party memory Sakuya carefully crafted and laid over his mind in order to better sell the illusion of them being childhood best friends and Mahiru’s reaction to Sakuya’s regretful and somewhat frightened reminder that that memory isn’t real is to look at him and go “let’s make it real then”
With Parallel Summer being back in TanakaBox (for those who weren’t here back when the event first ran, ParaSummer is a fun, free, VN style event Tanaka Strike made on their personal website for Servamp! There are 4 different routes you can take, and you play as Mahiru. I commissioned a translation for the event two years ago, which you can read Here! If you have a little money to spare, please be sure to tip Ryota for their stellar work)
Anyway where was I. Oh right okay so.
If Mahiru gets to teach Tsurugi to swim, then logically, Mikuni should be the one to teach Misono 😤 Please I need something that cute, I need Mikuni getting to be a big brother and it’s like when they were kids again, when Mikuni taught Misono how to play chess and they could spend hours together. Back when Misono could place his full faith in his big brother, and he wants to do it again. He knows he has no better teacher. No one will make sure he’s safer while also giving him the distance he needs to learn.
I need a sweet scene where Misono gets overwhelmed by a wave and starts to choke on seawater only to be pulled up above it because Mikuni scooped him up and Misono rests his head on his brother’s shoulder while catching his breath, the familiar feel of Mikuni’s hand rubbing up and down his back no longer so familiar.
Misono thinks about how rough his hands have become. How much they’ve both changed. It sparks a fire in him. He’s going to catch up. He’s going to be someone who no longer needs his big brother to protect him. He wants to protect Mikuni instead.
He remarks that it’s salty, and it’s uncertain if he’s talking about the ocean or the feelings he experiencing
Was rereading some of the stuff from Parallel Summer event (which you can find a translation of the full event here! Please give Ryota’s hard work some love and appreciation💕)
And Kuro’s route kills me because... How much does Kuro love Mahiru, you ask? (spoilers for Kuro’s route under the cut!)
The Parallel Summer Event from Tanakabox ran for all of August last year, and in it, you play as Mahiru trying to achieve the “ideal summer” for a number of different characters, of which Kuro is one of them. Kuro doesn’t create an ideal summer for himself. He makes one with Mahiru in mind.
And as you read the event, you start to notice things. He knows that Mahiru’s perfect summer includes Sakuya, so if you want to achieve Kuro’s good end and escape the dream, you HAVE to spend lots of time with Sakuya. I remember when this event first ran, I saw some KuroMa’s on twitter being really salty about this, and that baffled me because the fact that Kuro chooses this kind of summer where Mahiru is happy instead of for himself is in and of itself proof of how much Kuro loves his Eve!
A bad end is gotten if you either ignore Sakuya, or at the very end, choose to chase Sakuya instead of look for Kuro, which leads to one of the unique endings in the event. That ending happens because Kuro's desire is to give Mahiru a normal, happy summer vacation.
Because somewhere inside, he still believes that picking him up ruined Mahiru's life.
So, if you go after Sakuya at the end instead of remaining with Kuro, you're validating his feelings and his choices. The feeling that Mahiru would rather live life as a normal kid, and that becoming Kuro's partner... Was a mistake he wants to take back.
Kuro’s Good Ending route ends with Mahiru resolving to one day make that perfect summer he saw a reality, with Kuro by his side.
