This is a "Gush Space"! Please feel free to gush about Ione, since you've been hit with the Feels today. What about her gives you the Feelings? What role does she play in Parallel Voyages? :3
Omg this idea is so cute, can I borrow it?
Ione has a very important journey about self-acceptance in the WIP. She is the most magically gifted of the cast, and at first, she strongly dislikes and fears her specific power set. She believes it makes her dangerous, and she hates the idea of doing anyone harm, so she fears this part of herself. Over time, with practice and control and support from loved ones, she’s able to recognize that her magic doesn’t make her bad, and she can use it both to help others and for self-fulfillment.
Ione’s faith is very important to her, and that’s something that I think informs her as a unique character. Ione is Muslim.
She’s very much an artistic spirit, she loves to paint, dance, and grow flowers in the garden.
Very observant, which, paired with her patient, steady nature makes her a good source of advice. She can be a bit secretive about herself, but she is always genuine.
Ione appreciates the little things in life! Seeing the stars, watching the sun rise, a nice cup of tea, the smell of her favorite flowers, laughter wirh friends.
Both in canon and in the Star Trek AU, Ione and Rissa’s relationship is extremely important for both of them. They form each other’s primary base of support, love, and acceptance. Personally and professionally, they make an ideal team (with Liz to round them out.)
They may not always understand each other’s backgrounds, but boy do they try! Ione is deeply invested in Rissa’s Vulcan cultural traditions; she wants her mixed-species wife to know she treasures all of her and wants to take on as many experiences and adventures as they can together. Rissa may not be a spiritual person herself, but she is nothing but supportive of Ione’s own faith. She shows it in little ways quite frequently, but it’s most evident to the rest when she takes part in Ramadan with Ione each year.
Ione is Voyager’s Captain! Level-headed and sure, Ione can guide her crew through any situation. One of the biggest values on her ship is diversity: her crew is over half alien.
She sees her crew, particularly the senior staff, as a family unit, and is very invested in their well-being. She remembers birthdays, makes space to observes important holidays from all cultures and faiths, and does her best to make Voyager feel like a happy home (especially for those who have lost their own.)
She carries that Starfleet sense of optimism admirably. There are plenty of things she can’t change, but she devotes herself to making a positive difference wherever she can. Not many captains, for example, would take on the likes of several ex-drones, an exiled Cardassian, some Klingon militarymen, and Escari and Vulcan refugees as either crewmen or civilian members of her ship community.
