About Paraphilias.
From a paraphile.
Paraphilias are often shown in a negative spotlight, and yeah, what those suffering with paraphilias may have desires over may not be moral/legal in any sense, but they are human too, and need to be spoken about.
But what is the definition of a paraphilia? Paraphilias are an atypical sexual interest. However, a paraphilia isn’t necessarily a mental condition unless distress is caused to the individual or is causing harm to others.
Paraphilias can also literally be caused by trauma, but these may be so more called traumakinks? I’m unsure. So, by harassing someone who was very clearly going through a lot as a child and has a brain saying “wow… I really think sleeping people is hot!” isn’t just because they want to have sex with a sleeping person, it’s because their brain associates that thing with pleasure and therefore develops a paraphilia from it.
“Childhood sexual abuse is considered a leading cause of pedophilia, among other paraphilias and resultant paraphilic disorders.”
As long as you are no-contact, then there’s literally no problem? Not all paraphilias are illegal, anyway. Besides, getting help when suffering from a illegal paraphilia like pedophilia is really embarassing and opening up about it makes it feel like they would get in legal trouble for thinking that way about children.
“Furthermore, the very nature of paraphilic disorders in many individuals leads to victimization and often legal repercussions. This will only further deter patients from seeking treatment. Those patients involved in treatment plans are often either mandated legally or convinced by family, friends, or sexual partners.” (From the DSM 5).
Thank you for reading! Sorry, this really bothered me, I needed to speak on it.
