—— VARIOUS QUESTIONS // @parasiren
41. is your character aware of who they are? strengths? weaknesses?
idiosyncrasies? capable of self-irony?
for the most part , i think alistair has a decent grip on who and what he is. spending so much time alone during hunts , expeditions , etc. has led to a good amount of introspection as an unexpected bonus. he knows he can be crass , self-centered , prideful , impulsive , and generally not the best at good choices , but he also makes the conscious effort to work on his flaws when applicable. he’s also well aware as to where his strengths lie - not out of a boastful need , but in the sense of “ i know what my strengths are so i can know my limits”.
42. what does your character want most? what do they need really badly,
compulsively? what are they willing to do, to sacrifice, to obtain?
whether he knows it himself or not , alistair’s biggest need is community. he needs people to be proud of him , to accept him , to love and value him - and he needs people to do the same towards. in the past , his affections have either been turned against him or fallen on deaf ears ; his passion towards introverted studies isn’t necessarily from a desire to be alone , but from a knowledge that he can’t have what he wants. since he found a home in sanctuary and found companionship with its inhabitants , and found the ultimate goal in wainwright , it’s completed him - it’s why he’s been able to retire and focus on writing , an activity that lets him stay around the people he cares for.
as far as what he’ll do to keep what he has ? he allowed his sister to be murdered for it. that’s something.
45. is your character pragmatic? think first? responsible? all action? a
visionary? Passionate? quixotic?
pragmatic , responsible , passionate - yes. the rest ? not so much. even though alistair tends to be more impulsive than he aught to be , once he starts something , he has a duty to finish it. when he does happen to think things through , he rarely strays from the realm of facts and logic.
