SRI PARASHURAM 🔥
Krishna and Balarama with Parasurama at Mt. Gomanta Harivamsa series. Purkhu, 1810. Goverment Museum Chandigarh theheritagelab wrote: I’m always so fascinated by this painting of Mount Gomanta at the Chandigarh Museum! This Pahari miniature is part of the Harivamsa series - which is basically an Appendix to the Mahabharata and a super important piece of Sanskrit literature. In Image 2 (the full painting) you can see Parsuram, Krishna and Balram approach the mountain while the King of Mathura, Jarasandha, is pursuing them to avenge his brother’s death. The mountain is believed to be part of the Sahyadri range (Goa) and was known to be difficult to scale. This is why Parsuram leads the the two brothers up the mountain which is the abode of Siddhas (enlightened ascetics), Demons and Rakshasas, and Kinnaris / Gandharvas ! Absolutely love the depiction of the ⛰ and it’s creatures - and the shade of blue, but also wondering if this Mountain signifies something deeper. The Heritage Lab (via Instagram: theheritagelab)

“Oh Jagadisa! O Hari! O Kesi-nisudana! You have assumed the form of Bhrgupati Parasurama. You have dispelled the anguish of the material world by destroying the dynasty of the reigning military caste and purifying the universe with the water of their blood. O You who have appeared as Bhrgupati, may You be victorious!”~Sri Gita-govinda 1.10

“Lord Parashurama still lives as an intelligent brahmana in the mountainous country known as Mahendra. Completely satisfied, having given up all the weapons of a kshatriya, he is always worshiped, adored and offered prayers for his exalted character and activities by such celestial beings as the Siddhas, Caranas and Gandharvas.”~Srimad Bhagavatam 9.16.26
