Bollywood film and music buff, former radio show host, and Manoranjan Center owner and manager Jatinder Singh Bhandari will be gracing the airwaves at CKUT this Monday, August 5th for a special edition of World Skip the Beat. Since seeing his first feature in 1966 Mr. Bhandari has amassed one of the foremost collections of bollywood movies west of Mumbai, and he happens to call Montreal his home for the last 39 years.
He has also collected an enormous number of rare bollywood soundtrack cassette tapes and vinyl and an even more impressive knowledge. He will be bringing both to share this Monday for a 2-hour Indian movie music special in advance of the 100 years of Bollywood film series taking place at the Cinema du Parc this September. Don't miss this!
Bollywood was brought to Montreal in a way by Walan Singh Panesar 'Chacha' in 1935 and then in 1951 through songs which he played on gramophone. But it was left for C. B. Singh to start showing films on weekends regularly in 1970. He started with the film WAQT which he showed at Concordia University. Mr. Saini followed suit and showed his first movie Arzoo. Mr. Nandi Bhatia, Mr. D. P. Patel and Mr. Isac Jalal also entered in the film market.
Jatinder came in 1974 and joined C. B. Singh and carried his legacy futher. All of them promoted many high profile live shows which included Singers of the Century. They also promoted Hema Malini, Vyjanti Mala and so on.
Most of them have left but Jatinder goes on and goes on with his passion for entertainment through his 'Manoranjan Center'. His best is yet to come. Next year he will be celebrating 40 years in Bollywood."
