Officials of the Tamalpais Union High School District will decide Tuesday whether to stay with their original plans for a parcel tax measure on the November ballot, or to amend the tax rate or other terms based on results of a new community survey.

“I really, really wanted the whole enchilada for 10 years,” said board member Chuck Ford, who voted for the four-year supplemental tax along with Laura Anderson, Leslie Harlanderand Barbara Owens. “But the (poll) numbers are sobering.“The risk of losing (the November vote) is too great,” Ford added. “It would be nice to do it all, but those numbers are too scary.”“

Residents who want to preserve open space in the region might have an opportunity to put up their own money.
The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) is considering the formation of a special district that would use tax dollars to buy vacant land targeted for development in the Agoura and Calabasas, and designate the property as open space.
“There was a huge assessment change in the different categories, residential particularly went way up, so the decision has been made to hold the line as far as the residential rate goes,” Cobb said. “We have always been the highest on the industrial tax list and this year they got a reduction on their assessments so we decided to hold the mill rate the same.”
