Westside Leader using the prevailing narrative (implicit or explicit bias) to perpetuate stereotypes and reinforce white supremacy. Even the featured picture shows the top 10 academic students and the article points out that 46 students (12 of which were athletic) receive scholarships totaling $850,000, The headline would suggest Buchtel graduates received athletic scholarships... Supporting the stereotypes of the black savage/brute, black athlete trope, athletics is “our” way out, and diminishes/belittles Black intellect (to name a few). We must call out these microaggressions and/or blatant explicit tropes that reinforce the false narrative of white supremacy and black inferiority.
