okay, theres a whole lot that has happened this week so I am just going to run through the things i've done, day by day and then I'll get some pictures up on here.
Saturday: Took a train from Firenze to Roma. We checked into a hostel that was located in what seemed to kind of resemble the NYC Chinatown. We walked maybe 4 miles that day, and saw so much: Piazza della Repubblica's huge fountain of mer-creatures and women, Santa Maria della Vittoria where Bernini's Ecstasy of St. Teresa is, the Trevi Fountain that was unfortunately under construction, the Pantheon, the Column of Trajan and the fountain of triton by Bernini. Also, under the advice of Pim and Alessia, we went to a gelateria about three blocks from the Pantheon.
Sunday: After a breakfast provided by the hostel, we went to the Palazzo Massimo where they had a huge exhibition of ancient Roman and Greek sculptures, artifacts and frescos. I broke off from the group after that and went to the Borghese Museum, where they have Bernini sculptures, Caravaggio, Titian and other Renaissance and Baroque works. I met back up with everyone at the Spanish Steps.
Monday: We all took a metro to the Vatican Museum and experienced the over-whelming surge of both the art and the crowd. In the evening we walked to the Coliseum, the Arch of Constantine and the Arch of titus. In order to catch our 6:30 am plane, we decided to spend the night at the Roman Airport, which is when our break started to go downhill.
Tuesday: At about 1am, Tim and I began to feel very sick. Unfortunately, after making it through security and about 5 minutes before boarding, we both decided that getting on the plane to Paris would likely result in making ourselves more sick and we weren't sure if we were even going to feel better once we arrived in Paris. SO, the four of us didn't go to Paris and took a taxi and train back to Florence. I think I was both dehydrated and perhaps caught a stomach bug and Tim has a sinus infection. Although Paris would have been amazing, all four of us agree that we made the right decision to come home. I guess we all have to come back for something!
