Off-duty U.S. Marines Stop Terrorist on Paris Train

A 26 year old Moroccan terrorist who was known to French intelligence agencies opened fire on a train bound for Paris, injuring three people, two of them seriously. The suspect was arrested.

Witnesses reported that two off-duty U.S. Marines subdued the gunman, who had launched his attack with a Kalashinkov. According to the Marine Corps Times, both Marines were injured in the fracas, one by a gunshot, and one by a knife that suspect was carrying.  The Marine who was shot is in critical condition, according to the Daily Mail.

  The train was stopped at Arras, France on its way from Amsterdam to Paris when the gunman boarded and began shooting. Reports say that he was carrying 9 full magazines containing almost 300 rounds.

France’s  Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, praised the Marines for their timely intervention:

“Thanks to them we have averted a drama… (The Americans were) particularly courageous and showed extreme bravery in extremely difficult circumstances.”
