Just a Reminder
And another ... “But walking is also an embodied metaphor for the persistence and tenacity that human beings have excelled at in our four-million-year journey to becoming the world’s most evolutionarily advanced species. The human story is built around the journey narrative, the never-ending cycle of overcoming challenges and incorporating that wisdom into our lives. Walking physically reconnects us with humanity’s greatest story and reminds us that nothing worthwhile was ever achieved without learning from failure and revelling in triumph over and over again – one step at a time. - Jono Lineen” I cannot tell you how good it feels to be home, to drive out to the empty desert, to take my mask off (let’s keep on keeping’ them on around people to protect each other) and breathe in the crisp air. I am deeply grateful for moments like this. Even more so against the backdrop of a year such as this one 🙏🏼
My friend Libby shares an image and a beautiful piece of her favorite writing from all sorts of authors — some that I know and some that I discover thanks to her — every day after her morning walk. These little gems have proven to be a breadcrumb trail for my heart through this pandemic. Though we are thousands of miles apart, she makes me smile every day. And she has reminded me that my soul feels more deeply nourished outside than almost anywhere else. The world is complicated and devastated and beautiful and good and harmful and joyous, all simultaneously. When all of those things that are true at the same time prove intense, I find solace in the stillness of an empty expanse in nature. Thanks for the reminder, sweet friend. Outside is good. A simple gem from this week? “Smile, breathe and go slowly. - Thich Nhat Hanh #thismorningwalk”
