▶ A scientist’s job is perhaps the most exciting of all. Even its inevitable path to delirium results a worth-taking risk for the brave ones that dare to give themselves to the inmense universe that surrounds us, wild, but full of misteries to unveil. In ecosystems, in the human body, in a flie’s eye, a scientist craves for more, for all that’s to be known. Their individual reasons, on the other hand, are not available for other’s scientists to explore.
A motive that’s shared for the scientist in this generation is with no doubt the cure to the devil’s influence, but, as in any matter that involves Lucifer, the death is one step away.
That’s maybe why people say that a scientist’s best friend is a soldier, because they control in their hands pure evil, weapons capable of judging and executing. By himself, Sen wouldn’t like people calling him a soldier, but he can’t deny he’s playing God with a Savage Mark II. Acts guide to consequences, and now, with Bom to his side, Sen is escorting her to the gates of knowledge. In this case, the doors lie just between an Infected’s eyes.
"That one! Shoot it down!" pointing at a Runner, Bom calls the attention of the creature so Sen can get a clean shot, there’s nothing she can do about Sen’s shaky pulse but bringing the Infected a little bit closer might help, she reckons after analysing the boy’s emaciated reflexes. Sen gives the white, the Runner is on the ground.
Her feet move quickly towards the creature with eager, in her clipboard a paper titled with “Infected’s field behaviour” is filled with annotations. “Please come here and get it open…” she calls the boy over with a collected voice and a professional feel to her, Sen grins out of pure amusement. Kneeling beside her he takes the knife she handed him and penetrates the chest of the felled, bringing its phylum down the torso. Once open, the putrid smell of decomposed organs slap Bom and Sen in the face, overwhelming them with chills and retches.
"Wow…" His body shivers from the sight, Bom is writting more hieroglyphs in the paper before reaching out to the Infected’s interiors and extracting out of it a mass of coagulated blood between her fingers.
"Is probable that the fungus can infect the body through intake, but…" Bom doubts in the absence of records about the matter, and frustrated she approaches her fingers to her nose before stopping the move, and slowly turning her head to Sen.
"Don’t look at me like that… ain’t putting that shit in my mouth"
