âThere is a chance that sheâs out there, you know? Everyone can protect themselves. If you donât mind me asking, how long ago did this happen?â his thought process was that if it happened recently there was a good chance that she was still alive. Looking at the condition of the bracelet in her hand he assumed that it wasnât like that, it must of been far longer. âIf you want I can ask some people if they know anything about your mother? Nothing turn up but if it means that you see her again, whatâs the harm in it?â
It was an relaxing scilence, which was lying between the both of them. It was nice, untill gun shots were fired in the distance. She got anxious because of this, because the military district was over two kilo meters away and it was not good, if someother group discovers her here or knows that she if from this hated district.
There was once an incident: Bom and an old friend of her were on the move. They were outside of the save zone, to check on other, tiny zones, if there are even are people living anymore. It would not suprice her , if they are empty â To be honest. All living beeings are getting more and more aggressive. It can be scary sometimes. And it was true: the most of them were just empty places, it looked like it had been empty since years, untouched. Well it was normal that buildings run down fast. Things that are made by humans, aren't made for always. They often even build it like that, that it is ruining itself, so that the owner needs to buy a new one of its kind. Bom never got this system. If it breaks easily, why should the buyer buy another one of the same kind? Just that it breaks again? Especialy in this kind of time, everybody needs to take a careful choice. If the traded item turnes out to be just a useless thing, you could comepare it to years earlier: It is like you loose your home, your job. Of course she exaggerated, at least she thinks so. If people think back, to the time before the outbreak, it feels like heaven back then. But people need to be careful, because often the mind plays around with the memories of the old times and make them better or sometimes worse.
âThere is a chance that sheâs out there, you know? Everyone can protect themselves. If you donât mind me asking, how long ago did this happen?â, KangJun asked. Slowly the black haired one looked up to see his face. It was easily to see, that she is thinking back, trying to figure out how long it was. âIt was during the outbreakâ, she started with a soft voice, âwhat is over 20 years ago.... forgot to count.â Â
She smiled at his last question: âIt would be like a dream, to meet her again.â

"Bom?" Her name came out more like a question than a statement. Too tentative and fragile. His eyebrows drew together, and his next words came out in a flat angry voice. "What the hell are you doing here?"Â
Maybe keeping her standing in the doorway just outside the shop was rude. However, Junho had other things to worry about. Because if this was Park Bom heâd slam the door in her face before she ever got the chance to ask for his help. Heâd asked for her help once, asked her to believe him and she hadnât. Juvenile of him to hold a grudge like that maybe. But it was also all that Junho had to hold on to at the moment.
Bom made her way through the military district, to check if there are any people, who were ill and needed any medicine or treatment. She already checked over the half of the zone, the past few days. Bom was tired and she looked, like she was getting ill herself, what of course wasn't the matter. Sadly, the some of then were badly ill, some didn't made it through it. Luckily, the most of them were healthy. All in all it was a good average. Nothing special good nor bad. She was satisfied. Now she had only a hand full of locations left over, to check through. Bom just hoped, that it would go fast and easily. Without any special incidents. They did not know, where they are all hiding, that is why they had to search through every builing carefully, to not oversee someone. She even heard that some people were hiding in the sewerage system. For her luck, she don't need to go down there today.
As she stepped outside the buiding, a while later. Bom checked her clipboard, where a variety of things are scribbled up,determined for other illegible. â She didn't had a pretty nor clean font. She stepped down the stairs, while reading the Key points.
On her way back to the main hospital of the district, she noticed a small shop. She wasn't sure if anyone checked up here yet, so she decitet to go there. The shop wasn't that big, but it wasn't small either. She looked at it for a while, as she walked to the door. As she tried to push it open, it dont even moved for a tiny bid. So she knocked at the door, hoping that if somebody is home, that he or she would open the door.
She was looking at her clipboard, as the door opend. â I am sorry to disturb you, but ââ, she got no chance to talk further. âBom?â, the one in front of her asked. The addressed one looked up to the one in front of her. But before she could even look at this one face, the one spoke again: âWhat the hell are you doing here?â. As she looked at the one's face she took a bit to reconice him. Junho. He changed so much. Well, it's been over 6 years, since they meet the last time. Then she remembered the times they shared. âHello, Junho.â, she said softly. Is she regretting that she left him behind at the past time?
.: Still One Of Them :. Jay & Bom
Her response made him chuckle. It didnât seem as if she was afraid of him or afraid of dying, and that almost entertained him. But then again, she could also be relying on the military security system, which from his own experience from the both sides, he knew wasnât a good thing. The soldiers on patrol duty werenât as good as a one would make them seem, they didnât really care much. The only thing keeping them going was their fear from the commanders.
"No, not really;" he spoke. "Everything that I wish for is revenge and that I can only get by killing people in this zone." That brought a smirk on his lips as he removed the knife from her throat, knowing that there was no way she could escape him. He circled around her slowly, trying to come up with the best way of killing her - even though at the end he knew he wouldnât do anything special. It wasnât the way he killed them, it was only the number that counted. They were all the same, monsters.
"You see-" he started, but as soon as he saw her face, he lost all of his words he wanted to say yet so badly. His face probably went pale as he remembered the memories he buried in the depths of his own being. "Bom;" he breathed out as a sound of a knife meeting the ground pierced throught his ears.
Bom felt how a warm breath brushed past her skin, shortly after it came a chuckle. Was he amused by it? The one definitely is. Now, as she thought about it, how could he came in here. The patrols just got stocked up â Maybe they were just not that clever. She slightly sighed and just looked at the front. Maybe if she is just doing what he wants, she can sooner or later get out of this situation.
âNo, not really. Everything that I wish for is revenge and that I can only get by killing people in this zone.â, he said calm, what made it sound more threatening. Shortly after it she felt how the chilling cold, which came from the knive, dissapeared. She brought her hand to her troat, to be sure that the knive, was no longer there. She turned to the back, but he was no longer there. âYou see-â, he startet, the voice came from behind her back, she turned to the wrong side. So she slowly turned to him, without provoking him. Her eyes were fixed on the ground, she still saw his movements. âBom.â, her head shot up, as she heart her name, she ignored that the knive hitted the cold ground,. She was straight looking in the other ones face, confused. But shortly after that, her face lost all of her movements. She looked blankly at the one in front of her. âJay?â, she asked quietky. Automatically she stood up, as she remembered her old friend.
.:OPPOSITES ATTRACT :. Kangjun & Bom
He walked closer to her and laid his hands on her shoulders. âIâm so sorry. BomâŠ. I didnât mean to bring up anything hurtful to you..â A frown sunk on his lips, that was definitely something that he didnât want to happen. He didnât like making people feel awful, he tried to do the complete opposite usually. He took an opportunity to think to himself if he should ask more about her mother. Sure he didnât know her that well, and it was also true that he really only knew her name but that didnât stop Kang Jun from wanting to know she was alright. âSo, she went missing? She might be out there, looking for you?â
Bom smiled at Kang Jun. He is thinking alot. Only a tiny part of the population are thinking about such things. Sooner or later it will be the reason, why the humanity extinctet themself. No environmental Damage, no meteor.
âIâm so sorry. BomâŠ. I didnât mean to bring up anything hurtful to you..â, he said after she finished talking, he came closer to her too. âDon't say sorry.â, she talked slowly, yet not lout. âYou couldn't now,so it's alright. The thing is, please don'nt say you're sorryâ. The black haired women still looked at the floor, to avoud the eye contact to Kang Jun. It is not that she hatet it when people say they are sorry, it is that for one in this situation, he could not know what happent to her morther. And second, sometimes in a few situations, people should first think then speak or do. The second point is here not the reason.
Her boht hands softly played with the slightly rusty bracklet and she realized how many time passed. Actually she stopped counting the days, the moth, she didn't even know what year it is. She is simply not interrestet in it. The charming golden material is now in a shabby brownish coating of gridiron. Only on a few spots you could see that this thing was once valuable.
âSo, she went missing? She might be out there, looking for you?â. Bom thought about it. âI do not know if missing is the right word. She litteraly walked into the infectet.â, she took a breath and looked at him. âBut it would be nice to give it a try, right?â

A smile on his face he decided to push further, something he probably shouldnât of done. âIâm sure that your mother will be very pleased that you can give this to her again.â Smiling he waited, the women didnât seem best pleased by this.
Bom smiled warmly at the choice of his words.âYes, but if you see it that way. Long before our time, it was almost the same.â, she said, âI read a lot of books and it looks like the humanity develops backâ. She has read a lot, at least a big part of the books in the local libary survived untill now. Even if the pages turned brown and a lot of the letters were fading away after a time âin four to five years, they will no longer be readable. The old stories, they aren't going to be read anymore. The typical good night stories will fade away. She remembers how she was lying in bed, eyes closed, listening to her mothers voice. Untill her thoughts dissapeared in her own paradise.
The black haired woman realized how the calm look of Kang Juns face, the other ones face, grew to astonished. From astonished to relieved? Her eyes were on the bracklet again, as the younger one startet to take it off his arm. âThank goodness!â He yelped. Bom shortly listend to her surroundings â No infectet. Well, if there would have be some, they would have already been found. Her mind went back to the current situation. âI was thinking who this could belong to. Itâs so beautiful.â. He laid the bracklet in her hand. âIâm so glad that I picked it up then, I canât begin to imagine who else could of picked it if I hadnât off.â. Bom smiled happily at Kang Jun. âThank you.â It wasn't much or loud what she said but it was clear that she was thankfull to him. Her hands were starting to shake again.
Her smile broke before he could finish his sentence. â... that you can give this to her again.â. She looked at him blankly for a while. Â She didnt knew how to feel in this situation. Of course she was mote than glad, that she found the last keepsake of her mother. But now, being remindet that she is not around her anymore. She took a big deep breath and looked at the ground, as she felt that her eyes are watering up, caused by the mixture of her emotion. âWell...The last time I saw her, I promised her that I will keep it for her untill I see her the next time.â, she took a breath again, âBut I guess I i will never be able, to give it back to her.â
.:OPPOSITES ATTRACT :. Kangjun & Bom
Kang Jun halted at the sense that the stranger could become hostile. She didnât seem like she would attack him. Nor did it seem like she was a bad person, he put everything to the encounter to shock. Perhaps she just didnât expect to see anyone else out here, but really, neither did Kang Jun. He took a small step forward, seeing that the girl was taking a step backwards away from him.
âIâm a doctor.. Well, Iâm a midwife.â He replied to the girl, a reassuring smile on his face. What he didnât want to do in this moment was scare the poor girl, she didnât seem harmful so he didnât want to do anything that might indicate that he was going to attack her, because that wasnât the case. Listening to her other question he recalled the exact reason that he was here in the first place, for a mission. âIâm with the Fireflies, I was sent here on a mission just a little bit that way.â He again replied, pointing past the stranger.
He shook his head slightly, forgetting to do the thing that he should of done in the first place. Taking a few more steps forward he bowed slightly, but still allowing himself to look at the girl. âMy name is Kang Jun. Sorry for making you worry.â He reverted back to his original stance and clocked that the girl was looking quite taken by something.Â
He looked to the bracelet around his wrist and back to the girl. âWait, do you know something about this.â He quickly blurted, moving closer to the other, so they were in reaching distance of each other. âI found this whilst I was just out here in the Free district, a few days ago. Do you know who this belongs to?â It would of been nice to keep the bracelet, since it was pretty looking and you didnât come across jewelry that often, but if it belonged to someone, he had a duty to return it.
Bom got used of the presence of the stranger and visibly relaxed after a short amount time. Her shoulders weren't that stiff anymore and her face softened. Still, the long black haired women often glanced at the younger one. Still, even if she felt at ease she would not let her guard down when she meets strangers, never. As the boy took a step foreward to Bom, she stood still. He looked like he wouldn't hurt or kill her â for now.
âIâm a doctor.. Well, Iâm a midwife.â, he smiled. Also the corner of her mouth rose slightly. He seemed to be pround of this what he did. She knew that feeling of helping others too well, she loved it. Right now, he looked like a boy, who discoverd a for him adventurous thing. She just spoke out her thought, smiling with him: âYou are of that proud, aren't you? To help woman with their birthâ.
âIâm with the Fireflies, I was sent here on a mission just a little bit that way.â. Fireflies? Her eyes flicked up to the other ones face. As he rose his hand, Bom grabbed behind her back, to reach for her gun. She stopped her movement as soon the woman realized ,that the one across from her just pointet to the window next to her. More specifically, to that both of them cound see outside of it. Carefully, she looked outside the brocken window.
âBom.â, she said short. âI mean, my name is Bom. Park Bomâ. Kang Jun. The younger one now introduced himself as Kang Jun. He bowed down, that was when she was blended by the metallic object.
âWait, do you know something about this.â, he said walking towards her, âI found this whilst I was just out here in the Free district, a few days ago. Do you know who this belongs to?â. âA few days ago? So she did not lost it yesterday? She was confuded. How could it be that she didn't realized it? âIt is from my mother.â, she said quietly, without taking her eyes off the braclet.
.:OPPOSITES ATTRACT :. Kangjun & Bom
âKang Jun, Iâve got another job for you.â It was his boss, calling for him again. Lately he had been getting more and more jobs and he didnât know if that was a punishment or a reward. His boss seemed to be in a better mood than normal so it could be a good thing, maybe his persistence and hard work was actually getting rewarded this time. âSame job as last time but itâs a different location.â Next thing he knew he was given a map and pushed out on his âmerryâ way.
The military district? Was she for real? Sure it wasnât exactly inside the district but it was seriously too close. Worse scenario was that Kang Jun could be captured and then tortured, so it was obviously a priority to avoid letting that happen. Looking back at the map with his backpack hanging on his shoulders he begin to walk in the right direction. It would be new territory so he had to be careful.Â
Putting his map away for the time being his gaze landed on his arm, on the bracelet around his wrist. He didnât know whoâs it was, he had found it laying around on the floor of an abandoned building somewhere in the Free district. Jewelry was something that you didnât come across very often so he had to take it with him. Heck, maybe he would even find the owner of it, anything was possible.Â
Arriving close to his destination he marked out several crosses against the ground, so he was aware of the way to go to get home. Looking around he spotted another human. Acting quickly he took cover behind a wall of building and poked his head out to see the stranger. A women. She didnât seem hostile, she looked like she was looking for something. He had a mission but he knew what he was doing, maybe he could help her with something?
Walking out from around the wall he made himself fully visible to the women in question. âHelloâ he called softly, making sure not to attract any attention of the infected that could be around. Walking closer he got a better look of her, she looked more mature than he, she was definitely older than him. âAre you okay? Is there anything that I can help you with?â He spoke gently, trying not to startle her into her thinking that he was going to attack her, which wasnât the case.Â
Her heartbeat only sank slowy, as she arrived on her wantet place. Stands of her black hair was lying in her face, which She brushed quickly out of her face. Her cheeky flushed red and her breaths were intermittently and loud.
Soon after she arrived she immediately startet to search through the place. The sun was shining through the gaps of the walls. Because of the sunrays you saw the whithe glowing dust and how it was floating easily and slowly through the air. It looked like the seed of dandelion. The dust scraped in her throat, What made her cough several times successively.
âHelloâ, said someone behind her and she turned automatically to the male person. He was a bit taller then herself, she could tell, even if he is a few meter away. She scrutinize the strangers face, he didn't looked like he would kill her â at least now. His face looked soft and he looked younger then herself. Sure he was. âAre you okay? Is there anything that I can help you with?â. ââ Tell me what is your occupation?â, she asked firmly, trying to sound serious. Of course he could lie to her, but there is always a glimmer of doubt. Then her glance wandered over his clothes and she tries to indicate his gesture. A natually reaction of her is to back off a bit, to get a bit room between her and the stranger.
After a short time of scilence she glanced at the younger one again, â What is the reason you are here?â, she asked, this time she tried not to sound strong. If he wanted to kill her, he already did it. Still, she did not let her guard down,
Again a short time passed and she was blinded by something shiny. Bom shortly sqeezet her eyes shut, went a step to the side and looked to the origin of the radiance. It took a moment to reconize it. Then it clicket. ââ Where do you get this from?â
.: Still One Of Them :. Jay & Bom
Jay successfully managed to sneak into the military district once again, a crazy look in his eyes. If there was anything that could put him in a good mood, it was the revenge that he was seeking and that he craved most. He never forgave the district and the people who lived here for what they did to his family, how they tore them apart. They killed his parents that seemed to be the only thing he loved at the time or even ever.Â
With a machete in one hand and a knife in his pocket he wandered the cold streets, lingering in the darkness, wishing not to be seen. He always chose his victims carefully, always giving it a second though. But he wasnât picky, since every person here was a monster itself, so he never had a reason not to kill it without even blinking.
Minutes passed when he finally made it out of the street and was faced with a human being, or just a being, sitting on a bench, turning its back to him. A smile crept on his face, knowing the blood was going to get spilled. With silent steps he made his way towards the person, the smirk never leaving his face. His heart was beating fast as he was excited and thrilled.
With a single move, his blade was pressed against the womanâs throat as he still didnât see her face. âWell hello there. Itâs dangerous to wander the dark streets alone at this time, donât you think?â he spoke, his eyes sparkling with a lust for her death.
The time went by in flight.
The woman looked up in the sky. A few clouds were blocking the view to the stars, but you could still see a few of them shining through the blank spaces. It was a nice warm night, especially for this seasion. It was the start of spring, the season of new beginning â of a new start.
She often does think about it, how it would look outside these zones. Does it look the same? Is it worse? Or are plants there? She would love too go outside someday. She hasn't seen the forest in years, same goes to the ocean. She chuckels, as this thought came up. As a little child, she went often with her parents to the ocean. â Well, this was the time before this happend.
She was engrossed in thoughts, so that she didn't realized that someone came closer and closer. And she only snapped her head up, as she heard a voice right next to her ear. âWhat the ââ, she hissed, but as soon she spoke these two words, her vouce trailed off. The cause, she felt something on her throat. It was easy for her to indentify what is was, because the metallic object emits a unique cold.
âWell hello there. Itâs dangerous to wander the dark streets alone at this time, donât you think?â , she heard the obviously male one say. âI think that it is not one of your concernâ, she said slowly, âSo... What do you want â besides killing me?â
.:OPPOSITES ATTRACT :. Kangjun & Bom
âWhere are you? You cant be gone.â
The twenty-eight year old woman slightly panicked as she felt that something  wasn't on it's right place, as it should be. She scanned her surroundings firmly, searched through her little rooms, but it was nowhere to be found. Her hands started to shake, as she startet to look again through the room. Again nothing. She felt like a part of her soul is tearing apart. Now she just stood there. Lost. Why hasn't she noticed it earlier? A ,for her, such important thing can't get lost that easily, can't it? Then it clicked. She must've lost it approximately a half day ago, when she fled from a group of bandits. Bom was actually just outside to think. Think about everything. But her plan was thwarted. She heard voices, which came from a lot of different people. The bad thing: They moved closer and she had her weapons back in the military zone. â She could punch herself for this foolish thing. To run away was her only choise, before they come any closer. So she run back to the military district as fast as she could.
Now she was standing here. Like a like a little girl, who is lost on the fair, waiting for her parents to find her. Sadly, these days are over. She kind of acceptet the fact, that her parents will never find her. Still, this thing, was the last thing she had from them. Everything she had to do now is to wait. It is night by now and she would not dare to go outside alone at night.
Her eyes felt heavy as she woke up the next morning. For her it felt like she only slept for about an hour. She simply could not sleep. Bom slowly stood up from her old armchair and took her pistol and knife, before going outside. Her steps were fast and â for her relatively â loud. But, honestly, right now she din't cared. She didn't thought about it, that she coult be attacet, when she is that loud. She could be spotted easily.
As she arrived at the too well known place, she immediately startet to search through the place.
.: Still One Of Them :. Jay & Bom
The steps of the black haired woman were echoing through the corridor as she made her way to the gate, which was leading her outside the building. Her hands were playing with an old cloth, on which were little stains of blood. No, it was'nt her blood. It was like an hour ago as two guys decidet to start a 'violent conversation'. Bom was there by the time and just stood there listening, they were old enough to make their own decitions. In addition to that, these people were actually not allowed to go to this part of the building â Somebody didn't had payed attention. Well, they ended up leaving a bloody mess behind. Literally. We had no other choice.
She still unsuccessfully tried to get rid of the red spots on her face, as she were going along the street. A lot of people were outside and at each corner stands a patrol. At least here was it a bit more quiet. A bit more peaceful â Even if it's only an illousion. Actually there are a lot of groups thinking that the military are cold and unscrupulous. 'Cause we are killing humans? Every Group does it. We kill each other, almost always even without a reason. It is no humanity. Actually there will never be one again.
It was far past dusk, as the woman were at home for a short time and decited do go outside again. She was restless again. And bored. What else should she be? She does not realy have friends, well she actually is scared of having friends. More scared to lose them.
Bom sat down on a old almost decrepit bench. She sat often here, it was save here, since it is still in the military zone â She thought so.
