“i was gonna call first, but i knew you wouldn’t answer,” christian announced, opening the door to the other male’s apartment and letting himself in. he was a little surprised the door wasn’t locked or there wasn’t an elaborate trap designed specifically for him. then again, why would he visit riley so unannounced? “also, i’m really glad the door was unlocked, it made walking in a lot easier.”

Vera settled in at the table next to Parker quietly, the other girl clearly absorbed in her studying. She couldn’t help but wonder how long she’d been going at it, but Vera didn’t dwell on it too long. Parker was an adult, and could take care of herself. Still, Vera couldn’t help herself as she reached into her bag to grab the snack she had grabbed for her friend, sliding both it and the coffee to right in front of Parker before turning her attention to her own books.

It was an interesting friendship, the one she shared with Vera. She was still surprised that it existed at all-the horrible tinder date that had occurred between them should not have left room for a friendship to grow, but it did. Vera couldn’t help but be grateful for that. Parker, while not the kind of person she ever really imagined being friends with, had wormed her way into Vera’s heart, and Vera couldn’t help but admit that her life was better for it. Their time together always left her with a bit of a spring in her step, and feeling a bit like she could conquer the world if she wanted to. It was...nice.

nothing about her living in los angeles was fabulous-- so far the city of angels was feeling like hell. the heat was different than in georgia and she still hadn’t grown accustom to it, even after several months. the apartment complex she was able to rent in (one that had openings and was within her budget) was one flap shy of a cardboard box, but it would do. the landlord still hadn’t had a contractor come out to fix the hole in the wall that sectioned off her neighbor--a thin wall, at that. usually it wasn’t a big deal, but the spiny quill on her floor made her eyes lower and her face scrunch up. she knew exactly where it came from. picking up the lone spike from the rug on the floor, she marched next door and rapped her fist against the hard wood. “i know you’re home! you never leave!”
