This is a Parker Challenger Standard size model 289 in Gray with chrome plated trim date coded 1936. Parker advertised the 5 1/16 inch long Challenger as an "outstanding value" that used the Duofold button filler for only $2.50 and had a matching pencil for only $1.25. Sets included a bottle of Parker Quink ink. They came in Standard and Slender sizes. Also available in Black, Burgundy and Green with gold plated trim. The barrel is stamped PARKER CHALLENGER over MADE IN U.S.A. over BY PARKER PEN CO., JANESVILLE, WIS. next to 36, indicating the manufacturing date.
