Hi umm I don't know if you answer these types of asks, so I'm really sorry if you don't, but you're like the best blog I could think of to ask this. I wrote a really cute Parkner fic and I want to put it on ao3, but I've never really used ao3 before and I don't know what tags to use?? So in your experience, how do people usually tag their Parkner fics? Btw I love your blog its like the best blog I follow🍄👍
I certainly can answer these kinds of questions to the best of my ability.
Everyone tags differently. There is a certain “etiquette” that most people follow. So the general rules I try to follow (and what I see a lot of people doing) are:
1. Tag the ships in the relationship tag. If it’s not explicitly stated or a big part of the story, add into the regular tags “background _____.” But ships should be tagged because some people don’t like reading background ships.
2. Do not give a summary of the story in the tags.
3. Categorize. Ex include: whump, angst, romance, fluff, smut.
4. Add tropes. Examples include: friends to lovers, there was only one bed, snowed in, found family, etc
5. Tag alternate universes. Ex: no powers au, coffee shop au, royalty au, etc
5. Any extra tags can be information you think readers should know that are key to the story. Ex: Peter Parker is Tony Stark’s Biological Child, Harley Keener is Iron Lad, those sorts of things.
6. You do not need to go crazy with the tags. Categorize and inform without giving away the entire plot. It is important to note, however, that you can tag however you would like to. It is your fic. These are just some guidelines that I’ve picked up over time.
