First Jack Parow single "leaks"
In a development that seems to have all the hallmarks of a well-executed publicity stunt, the first single off the new Jack Parow album Eksi Ou has appeared on the Channel24 website. The site claims the single - called Afrikaans is Dood - was "leaked online late on Thursday". This is the first public exposure of his highly anticipated 2nd studio release, out in December.
Parow has made a number of changes over the last while. He now plays with what he calls his "band", including beat producer DJ Naaldekoker. More importantly, the album is also being released by Jack Parow independently on his label Parowphernalia, after the Afrikaans rapper dropped his label earlier this year. The track, leaked or not, is epic.
Danny K engaged
Capetonian heartthrob pop star Danny K has, according to reports, asked his girlfriend advocate-cum-model Lisa Gundelfinger to marry him. The news broke over Twitter yesterday when Heat tweeted to congratulate the pair.
They have apparently been dating since the start of last year, after his split with former fiancee Lee-Ann Liebenberg. The singer is currently also involved in wrapping up the second track and music video for his organization SHOUT, which he started to aid the fight against crime.
Radio DJs suspended over Malema song
Two radio DJs for the SABC's Ukhosi FM have been suspended for airing the controversial song "uMalema", by the group Izingane Zoma on traditional show Utalagu last Saturday. DJs Khathide Ngobe and Ngizwe Mchunu were suspended this week for playing the track, which was not on the scheduled playlist.
Given the current buzz around censorship, the SABC were quick to point out, in a statement, the suspension had nothing do to do with the song's content - the track was not play-listed nor scheduled for the show, and radio DJs are expressly prohibited from "just going to the archives and [retrieving] a song without approval".
SA Dancers get US ticket
Four young local dancing talents have been asked to join dance workshops in San Francisco and New Jersey. The four - Byron Klassen, Thembisa Selana, Veronique Regon and Robyn Fortune - are all affiliated with Dance For All (DFA) and were invited after a delegation of six US dance instructors visited earlier in the year.
The guests were running the Winter Dance Intensive along with the DFA when they recognized the dancers for their talent. They will attend workshops in the US that feature some of the world's best dance training and coaching, and the fact that this invite was extended has been labelled by DFA as a "compliment to DFA's students…and the wonderful training they're receiving…"
