low expectations || April & Colby

What a day it had been.
April woke up with tons of messagens from her family and on her social media, and as the day went by she couldn’t help but feel nervous. Interview after interview, it should be something she was used to from her wrestling days, but this time there was no character for her to hide behind. It was just her, April Mendez, with her life out in the open for everyone to read about. She tried not to think about that too much, it was important to not or she would end up freaking out every five minutes, and now it was official: Her book was released, she was an author.
And there she was, signing books, talking to fans, watching her family take too many pictures. Hearing all the nice words from people who had read the book already, the amount of love for her made April, in true April fashion, almost want to curl on fetal position under a table. Mostly, she was glad she was surrounded by so much love from her family, friends and fans.
Still, there was one thing missing, one she didn’t want to think too much about because, well, she had learned not to expect anything. Colby had promised he would be there, and despite April knowing it would be nearly impossible, he probably had a lot of appointments and places to be because of work, she still expected him to be there. All her old wrestling friends sent her messages and promised to visit once they were in New York, but she still expected him to show up.
A couple of hours later she was in her hotel room, planning her next day interviews and looking at the pictures of her party, still not a single text from Colby. She wasn’t disappointed, just... Sad. She couldn’t even remember the last time they had seen each other, but with his schedule she couldn’t expect much. When the phone rang April sighed, hoping no one from her family was down there because she was too tired, and when the recepcionist informed her a man by the name of Colby Lopez was there April almost dropped the phone, answering that yes, he could go to her room. April tried to put herself together the best she could, fix her hair and change at least her shirt. He was really there, she couldn’t believe it, but maybe she should.
