After going to New Orleans many times over the years, I had always wanted to go to Baton Rouge! Similar style cuisine, smaller town, less craziness! Because I was driving, it made a stop in Baton Rouge a must for at least one meal!! For today, it would have to be lunch, as I was leaving Lafayette around 10am, heading for New Orleans. I looked online to find a classic creole or cajun place that was also open by 11 or 1130am. As I was driving on to New Orleans after lunch, I chose to sit at the bar. The staff here was very helpful with the menu, though I pretty much knew exactly what I was having! I had looked at the menu online, turtle soup was a must to start. I ended up choosing a crab and crawfish gratin as well!! The turtle soup was served with warm bread, a good accompaniment. The soup was chunkier than I have had before, served very hot and flavorful!! An excellent start to my lunch!! The crab and crawfish gratin was loaded with cheese, almost too rich, if that is possible. It also had a generous amount of both of the crab amd the crawfish! It was also served with bread, this time toasted. This was plenty of food, glad I didnt order anything else. Parrains was an excellent lunch choice, well worth the stop. Friendly staff, delicious classic turtle soup, and a comfortable seat at the bar all contributed to this great lunch!! I would absolutely return to Parrains if I found myself in Baton Rouge again. It's a bit out of the center of town but easily reached by car in about 10 minutes. Take that ride for a great lunch experience in this quaint southern city!! Have a great day!!
