Sooyoung hadn’t seen him in such a long time, which was why she was slaving over a stove wearing a ridiculous apron her mother bought her to make sure she wouldn’t get any stains on her clothes. Her brows furrowed together as she tasted the soup, practically falling into bliss at the balance of being spicy but not too spicy. She was making ddeokbokki, especially for him, and had already finished wrapping the kimbap. It was a simple meal, but it was all she could afford right now having spent the rest of her money on buying a birthday gift for her mom. She turned her head, staring at the boy tapping on the table as he waited for her to finish. He must have been bored just sitting there having nothing to do, but she wouldn’t let him help her in the kitchen. Today was his day to be pampered. He worked so hard prior to his debut and even still afterward, so this was her way helping him relax. Breaking away from her thoughts, she turned back to the pot and sighed when the meal was finally finished. She turned off the stove and took out two small bowls for their rice. As she stood on the tip of her toes, she peered over her shoulders and called out his name. “Dinner’s ready!”
When Sooyoung had promised she was going to make it up to him for basically ignoring him for almost a year, she apparently had not been joking around. She seemed hell bent on being true to her word, even declaring that she’d make a feast for him. And while he can see that the food being prepared was nothing extravagant, it was still a nice and sweet gesture, and very much appreciated, albeit one that was a total surprise if he was going to be honest. He realizes she really had been feeling guilty for the whole debacle that had gone on between them that it almost made him feel bad--it wasn’t as if he’d gone out of his way to mend fences either, being busy with training, and flying back and forth Japan as well.
“Oh good-” He heaves a sigh of relief, one hand rubbing at his stomach, now more than ever feeling the hunger that had been nagging at him for over an hour now. Sooyoung was kind enough to work hard on a meal, but she also took her sweet time with the preparation. He jumps up to his feet, eager for a meal, that he scurries around the kitchen, looking for the utensils and plates so he can go ahead and set the table for both of them. “Nice apron, by the way,” he suddenly comments, just now taking note of the design it had.
