Searching for a Prince
Starter for @elsaofarendelle
Ariel shivered as she stepped out of the cold waters and onto Arendelle’s shore, the wind whipping around her bare waist and causing the mermaid to draw her arms around herself, her newly replaced necklace jingling slightly as it was jostled. She’d never retrieved the bracelet that allowed her to walk that Regina took from her, but luckily for Ariel there were plenty of other mermaids who had desired to go onto the shore over the centuries, and while finding another one was difficult, it was not impossible.
The necklace she now used had another welcome effect, as long as the mermaid wore it, she could speak. Regina had taken her voice from her when she had realised that Snow had slipped from her clutches yet again, and it didn’t look like the Evil Queen would be likely to return that any time soon. So, Ariel either had the option to swim and be silent or stand and speak.
Ariel looked up at the castle with an almost wary gaze, knowing that soon she would have to start her trek up to those gates in order to continue her quest. The last lead she had to her beloved prince Eric placed him here, and while there was every chance that this was yet another wrong lead or dead end, she had to keep trying, couldn’t just give up on him. Blackbeard had docked here at some point while he still had Eric, and since she couldn’t use the pirate to gain the information she needed, the redhead had elected to start at the top and work down, asking the royalty if they’d seen a prince in the area, before scouring the towns. She hoped, with any luck, that someone her would be sympathetic to her plight, and offer her aid. Every other realm she’d been to thus far in search of her prince had ignored her.

Glimmering scales disappeared in a swirl of purple smoke as Ariel huffed, heaving Snow’s unconscious form on to the warm sands before them. It had been a long swim, and the redhead was tired and a little shaky on her borrowed legs. She’d seen the princess dive off of a cliff high above the stormy seas she called her home, and she’d seen the men who had pursued the raven haired princess throw spears into the sea, as if to try and finish her off if the drop into the roiling waters didn’t end her. Ariel had acted purely on instinct rather than any logic, swimming to the woman as fast as her tail could carry her and scooping up the unconscious person as she made for the only place on land that she knew was safe, a deserted island a significant distance away. It was more risky for the stranger’s health to travel this distance, that much Ariel had presumed, but at least here she would have time to rest without fear of being captured by those awful men who had chased her.
Now that the woman was safe, Ariel collapsed down onto the sand next to her, taking a moment to rest. There was nothing more she could do for now, she was too exhausted to carry Snow any further, so they would have to wait until she regained consciousness or Ariel felt strong enough to move again.
“Hey, you’re shivering. Do you wanna borrow my coat?”
“N-no, I couldn’t take it away from you, S-Snow” Ariel bit out between her chattering teeth, crossing her pale arms over her chest. While it was cold, she had to admit that, she simply couldn’t take the coat off of Snow’s back, she needed it just as much as Ariel did.
“I guess I mermaid’s just aren’t cut out for this c-c-cold weather! Maybe we can find somewhere to go inside?” The mermaid asked hopefully, unable to hide her desperation to get out of this bitterly cold wintry wind. While she could swim in the icy waters of Arendelle with little to no effect, it seemed to her that her legs were less impressed by colder climates, and while her attire was perfect for swimming in the waters of her home, Storybrooke’s weather was less than hospitable to mermaids still fresh from the sea and dripping wet.
