Dear followers, could you help me out, please? A friend has set up a fundraiser for me to be able to buy a wheelchair that will suit my body's needs. Having hEDS and POTS (among other things) means that I cannot stand nor walk for long, even with braces and crutches. My current blue Enigma Spirit wheelchair is prettier but not much more suitable than those horrible hospital-tanks you find scattered across the Commonwealth. It is too heavy for me to self-propel over pavement, too wide (I can't get into my kitchen) and the seat has no bucket (angle) to it, causing painful muscle spasms if I need to be in it for more than a couple of hours. Not even that long, sometimes. I recently had a wheelchair assessment with the NHS. Their criteria prioritise 'time needed' over 'condition needed for', so they were only willing to provide a cheap, basic chair, no better than the inexpensive Enigma I use now. It would only have caused me pain, fatigue and injury so I refused, accepting the alternative: a voucher, equal in value to the chair I was offered. A decent active-user wheelchair costs in excess of £2,000 (approx. $2,800). It's no good buying a second-hand one because I need it tailored carefully to my size and shape. I've done my research, tried out a couple of makes that were top of my list and decided on the Ottobock Ventus as the base price is close to £1,000 cheaper than the other, which means I could get a better cushion and wheels. As for the voucher offered by the NHS? £200. That's all. Impossible to even buy the Enigma Spirit again with that. So, if you've read this far, chances are you'll be kind enough to follow the link and do something with it. It doesn't matter if you're not in the UK, you can take action. It would really mean a lot to me, thankyou ~♡ https://www.gofundme.com/wheely-helpful-chair
