BRIEF EXPLAINATION OF MALAWI CANADA NURSING EXCHANGE PROGRAM AND VANIER COLLEGE
In 2010, the former principal of Kamuzu College of nursing Dr. Address Malata and Regina Msolomba, came to Canada where they had a meeting with members of nursing faculty at Vanier College. The partnership for Malawi Canada students nursing exchange program was signed. In 2011, the first group of nursing students from Vanier College went to Malawi. Kamuzu College of nursing delayed starting sending their students to Vanier college because it was not easy getting the Visas for Canada. In 2014 the first group from Kamuzu College of Nursing came to Vanier College as a reciprocal in the exchange visit. We are the third group to Visit Vanier college in this partnership.
Vanier college is a bridge between high school, and university studies or employment. The College offers pre-university two year programs and three-year career programs. Both lead to a Diploma of college studies which is needed to enter a Quebec university. In addition, career programs provide students with essential employability skills and training for immediate entry into the job market.
Pre- university programs include: languages and cultures, Liberal arts, music, sciences (health, pure and applied, computer science and mathematics, English and French). Social science in English and French; mathematics, child studies, international studies, law and society, psychology and sports and Leisure.
Three years career programs include; animal health technology, architectural technology, building systems engineering technology, business administration (accounting and management technology, insurance and financial advisory services, marketing), computer science technology, computer engineering technology, early childhood education, environmental and wildlife management, industrial electronics, nursing, office systems technology(micropublishing and hypermedia), professional music and song techniques, respiratory and anaesthesia technology, special care counselling.
