Apparently, it's #MerMay. So I've decided to share with you guys a silver of a story I'm thinking of...or rather, a retelling of a familiar one: #TheLittleMermaid. The image above is by @MeganMissfit on DA and is not mine. But in rping it is common practice to find images online and to have them inspire the appearance you want for your character. So, this image inspires the main character of my story, Envile (The Little Mermaid), pronounced "ahn-veele". Envile is the youngest daughter and princess of the deep sea mer kingdom-city of Etlant. Her story plays out similarly to the original: goes to the surface, rescues a human, and falls in love with him. But her voice is not taken nor does she die. She is a young mermaid plagued by insecurities. Her older siblings are hundreds and thousands of years older than her and are strongly talented in water magic and other arts. However, she doesn't know her purpose. She is allowed to visit the surface at 15, and the typical events go into cycle. After the events of the story, she is betrayed, sold to a Victorian freakshow, trapped on land with no idea how to get home, speak English, has weak magicks skill, and feels helpless. More so, she comes to feel ugly inside and out. Her siblings are able to transform into a land appearance to match humans, but her magic is so weak that she isn't able to manifest a land appearance and appears as her original merself. She is ridiculed for her appearance...but marveled at for her beautiful voice. Over time, Envile comes to realize her talent in magicks is based in song (inspiration from the #Disney tale). _____ This story is still in development events-wise, but I've fleshed out Envile and her siblings quite a bit.
