“If you can help, then I’ll do what I can to make sure nothing... Comes back on you. I can’t make any guarantees, but can promise that I’ll do my best. Is that enough?”

“You’re a fuckin’ liability, y’know?” Is how she greets the Killjoy who appears in the doorway of the latest dilapidated building she’s calling ‘home’. “One day your friends are gonna drag you over here with a limb missing and expect me to magically grow it back.”
Ah, but there’s fondness creeping into her tone now, isn’t there? Spend long enough patching up vigilantes, you’re bound to start giving a fuck about ‘em, she supposes.
“C’mon,” Medi lazily gestures to a seat as she moves to grab her first aid kit. “You know the deal by now: tell me what happened, and I’ll fix you up.”

“Here,” Elena holds out the battered canteen she’s just swigged some water out of, biting back the urge to make an ill-timed joke about him not needing to worry that it’s poisoned. “Figure it’s rude not to offer, right?”

not just a scratch
A HISS AS FIVE KEPT HIS SWEATER VEST && SHIRT TUCKED UNDER HIS CHIN . fingers bloodied && stained with both fresh red && dried dark , as he tried nimbly to pull the shrapnel pieces out one by one . medical grade tweezers carefully trying to dig out each shred of metal that was wedged inside him . a puff of his cheeks as he then closed his eyes , trying to keep himself COMPOSED , five let the back of his hand rub his forehead . letting out a low breath , he cleared his throat , eyes squeezed shut as he pulled back another shard && dropped it into the metal tin beside him . he groaned slightly , clearing his throat && exhaled . his breath UNSTEADY && LABORED as he then went to get the next shard . shit . shit shit .
footsteps approaching , five DROPPED the tweezers && shuffled to pull his shirt down , eyes flickering up as he adjusted himself where he sat . there was gleam of sweat to his features && blood still on his hands . a pretty shitty job of hiding all this . especially with a fuckin’ medical kit open on the table in front of him . shit . eyes blinking as he lifted his head , five cleared his throat . ❝ HONESTLY , it’s not as bad as it looks , ❞ @partymask

sam frowns–– she understands that, yeah, in this situation, she does need protecting, but flat out ignoring party’s injuries feels like a really, really bad idea. as if that’s ever stopped him, she thinks grimly. ‘ hey, ’ she says after a moment, ‘ think of it this way: if you die on me, i’m not gonna make it out here alone. so will you just let take a look at you? ’

it isn’t supposed to be like this. the world she painted murals of to keep herself sane, the world she caught glimpses of as she was transported from labs to manors and reclusive, shady corporations, the world she sometimes allowed herself to dream of on her most desperate nights, is not supposed to look like this. perches on the curb, rusting gas pump behind her, and the dismal sight of an vacant building before her, magnolia wonders, not for the first time, if she did die and this is some kind of afterlife. her only reason for knowing it to not be the case is she already speaks to the dead. a gloomy expression rests on her features and it darkens by the second as the sun sinks lower. it perfectly matches her deflated temperament.
head tilts to the side as her companion approaches. she only looks at him for a brief moment before turning her gaze down. the asphalt and cement is cracked. a few weeds grow up here and there. magnolia reaches for a chunk of debris, quietly tapping the piece of cement against the curb beside herself. ❝ sunsets, ❞ she manages to get out in a mumble ❝ w-w-wanted. to see... ❞ a deep crease forms on her forehead. she used to paint so many of them. but they were pretty ones. with big perfect cityscapes. or sprawling plains, placid lakes and rolling oceans. it was all supposed to be beautiful and not so different than how she left it. not...this. ❝ want. my dreams. back, ❞ it’s more of a whisper to herself. fingers curl into a fist, holding the cement rock in her palm before she lays her forearms out on her knees and then proceeds to rest her head atop them. nothing ever turns out the way it’s supposed to.
