PKR leaders laud sacking of member over flag burning incident
SHAH ALAM, Aug 23, 2014:
PKR leaders have lauded the party’s decision to sack PKR Youth Kuantan branch chief Aidil Haryman Mat Nor after the disciplinary committee found him guilty of burning the party’s flag yesterday.
Describing the act as treasonous, PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said any party member who insults his own party in public should not continue to be its member.
“It is tantamount to stabbing the party’s back,” he said when met at PKR’s 10th National Congress at the Stadium Melawati here today.
It is learnt that Aidil was formerly the campaign manager for Kuantan Member of Parliament Fuziah Salleh during the recently concluded party polls.
Meanwhile, PKR Human Rights and Legal Bureau deputy chairman S. Jayathas said the decision to sack Aidil was warranted.
“Any one in any party who burns the party flag does not deserve to be a member at all.”
Jayathas also advised the four PKR members who were served show-cause letters for their participation in PASMEB (Pakatan Anak-Anak Selangor Menyokong Menteri Besar) to pick between the party and PASMEB.
“It is their right, but it is also against party conventions.
“Therefore, they must explain themselves really well and hopefully make a good decision.”
Earlier today, the party’s disciplinary board announced the sacking of Aidil, who is also a supporter of now-Independant Selangor Menteri Besar (MB) Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, for burning the party flag.
PKR disciplinary board chairman Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong said in a statement today that Aidil had publicly posted on Facebook a picture of himself burning the flag.
He said the move tarnished the image and credibility of the party in the eyes of the public, hence the board came to the decision to sack him from the party.
In addition, four other PKR members were suspended and issued with a show-cause letter after they were involved in a press conference on Aug 20, held by PASMEB and other NGOs to support Abdul Khalid as Menteri Besar.
The four were Dr Wan Suhaimi Wan Daud of the Pasir Mas division, Nasiruddin Mohamad of the Sepang division, Abdul Rahim Abdul Wahab of the Selayang division and Rosmah Suly of the Batu division.
The decision was made yesterday after the party’s disciplinary board presented this and other disciplinary cases at the PKR leadership council meeting that was chaired by party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
