Intoxicated by the beauty of Paris
I believe even a lifetime is not enough to really explore Paris in its full entirety, let alone a few days. I had promised myself to make the most of this trip. I had French as an elective in my college. So as a part of an exchange program of few days, I got this opportunity to visit Paris and experience the language from ground zero. I was so excited I could barely sleep the day before. The best part was that my best friend and I both had shown a flair for the French language and therefore got selected for this program. We both decided to pack light and shop from there. I also promised my parents to video call them at least once a day so that they would not be worried sick.
The first thing that I noticed as soon as I stepped out of the airport was how different the pace was. People were in no rush to reach anywhere. It looked as if time flowed differently here. In my broken French, I requested our cab driver to take my friend and me to Jardin du Palais Royal. Our baggage was already sent to our hotel, thanks to amazing service by UA Reservations. The hedges along the place had framed symmetry, and the architecture was out of this world. We spent an hour just admiring the polka dot installation there.
After a quick video call to my parents, informing them that I have arrived safely, my friend and I left Jardin du Palais Royal to grab a quick lunch and enjoy it as the French do. I noticed many people in the cafes and restaurants who have stopped to enjoy lunch and indulge in conversations with their colleagues. I don’t remember the last time I sat down with my friend and enjoyed the food I was having. Usually, I grab a sandwich from the college cafeteria and eat it while cramming my notes. People here really enjoyed their meal and were in no hurry to return to their day jobs. We sat down at Au Vieux Comptoir, a chic café with friendly service.
After covering a short distance, we arrived at the Louvre, the poster kid of Paris. We knew we won’t be able to see everything in this vast museum, so we stuck to the most famous French and Italian masterpieces. I am glad we saw the Mona Lisa and some of Napoleon’s gems. The museum was quiet but there a lot of people, most of them were tourists like us.
On our way back to our hotel, I caught a glimpse of the street style of Paris. The women looked chic and effortlessly beautiful, while the men looked dapper and carefree. We both bought a lot of make-up, especially the iconic red lipstick, from a make-up store near our hotel. I could picture myself living there when I am in my 70s.
