Playing part 1 of Chapter 5 of Scarlet Hollow is this is all so crazy because. because.

The thing is that, each character is, quite reasonably I would say, losing their fucking mind. The main character has the possibility to say "fuck this" in various ways (by the way, the music for when you're deciding what to do once you leave the estate is SO GOOD i love it), Tabitha is having a pretty bad time from what I've seen even if I haven't tried a lot of options yet, and I'm pretty worried about Oscar just. spiraling and forgetting about his daughter in his quest for answers. Moreover Miles is just having the worst time ever someone give this kid a break, and KANEEKA??? KANEEKA BELOVED??? COME HOME???

And then there's Avery. Average Joe reaction of "hey that sucks we need to get you out of there". It's really nice to speak with someone in a more grounded manner after everything that went down in the Forbidden Wing. Like yeah you know what? I'm grateful for this normal reaction:

Avery directly aknowledging their status as a "ghost", but "a nice ghost"? Oughhh this is lovely and at the same time. Parallels with the Entity/Wayne. Very very interesting and fun and just. I love how well-constructed Scarlet Hollow narratively is, Avery being possessed to play the role of the Entity because they, too, are a ghostly presence in the town rather than being seen as fully belonging to the local scenery... I love good writing

Really like the new sprites too! At first they made me uneasy because I didn't know the sprites were going to be entirely new, but they're growing on me! :] and Avery's outfit is really cool I dig the tie it's a nice look

The first part of the chapter really creates this feeling of unease and confusion because you don't have any clear direction anymore, you're not working in a group anymore, you don't know who to trust or even if you can trust anyone here. The revelations of the forbidden wing do a wonderful job at creating paranoia. Like I legit thought for a second that Tabitha would shoot us during the "Don't Move" interaction. And this is a character I have grown to trust over several hours of gameplay, that can sacrifice years of her life for you. Black Tabby Games you are cooking
