Viewed from a distance, the work looks like a lunar landscape, all craters and bumps. 🌕 There's an interesting relationship between the artist's choice of delicate hues, and the destructiveness action of piercing the paper. Shimamoto however, feels that his work transcends the violent nature of his techniques: ‘even if my method seems shocking and violent [...] because I am an artist my purpose is to make the work beautiful, to show the beauty of everything. I’m just working on creating beauty.’ See the painting up close at Tate Modern. https://www.instagram.com/p/B7tFdYTKlQP/?igshid=c3b7b8q2in5e
