Let’s face it, growing old is inevitable, and most people, if not all, see this physical maturity as a curse. Well, that’s how humans are engineered. The youthful beauty and juvenile joys are fleeting. Contemplating on this unchanging fact only sends sorrow into our hearts. Optimism, however, keeps our heart young as we grow old.
When we think about growing old, it’s hard not to think how our visions of death draw close as well. Our fear of it sometimes and somehow hinders us to live fully. Death is certain and there’s nothing we can do to defy it. But, we should never live in fear for it and thus restrain ourselves from discovering the world of grownups.
Growing old permits us to do things we couldn’t when we were still young. In fact, growing old means discovering a new source of happiness and discovering your true self. It’s like exploring a foreign terrain but in the same world. Along the way, you’ll see sights pleasant and unpleasant. Nevertheless, both make you appreciate the good things in life and therefore keep your heart young. For example, you move to a new place and all your childhood friends become a memory. On the contrary, you meet new faces and forge another unique bond of friendship. You know in your heart that your friends in the past will always remain as your friends, although connected through the invisible thread of lasting friendship.
Memories preserved in the heart and other joys keep a heart young
Having the heart of a young makes us perceive the world with endless wonders. The days of the dark may come as we grow old, but a person, young at heart, will never grow weary to looking forward to the coming of a brighter day. Time makes frail of our prime, but a sound and happy heart withstands Time’s test.
